Steve McClaren

I still think as things stand, moyes, Rodgers and Benitez won't have any better club's to go to than us

The first two, maybe.  Benitez?  No way.  He's managed top/elite clubs and done pretty well, everywhere he's been.  Why would he decide to manage a team, that looks odds on to get relegated?

Coin, lots of coin.

Looking at our previous managerial appointments I don't think there's any way in the world we're likely to get an expensive, foreign, experienced manager of high repute and status.  It's literally exactly the opposite of what we've been doing for the last eight years.

All depends whether Ashley wants to gamble with the new Tv money on the line. Stick with McClaren and big chance of losing out. Sack him and hire cheap, unproven, low quality shit managers, might as well keep McClaren and his staff and avoid paying compensation.

If he wants to guarantee the club's future in the Premier League, go out and get the big name, high quality, experienced manager. Yes, it might cost more but it will be peanuts when the new money comes into play.

Ashley hasn't faced this big of a risk since owning the club. How he sees the payoff will likely decide our future.

Damning enough indictment. His hamster smile is slowly sleepwalking us to the Championship.

Still a full 11 % points higher than Carver...what a travesty that whole 6 months was.

Also Roeder looks decidely grand by comparison.

This guy gets it:

Newcastle attitudes and platitudes are cause for concern as battle looms

http://gu.com/p/4gztv?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Copy_to_clipboard

I do wonder whether Charnley and co ever read the press and think to themselves that the reporter has a point.  Or do they just believe McClaren when he tells them it will all be OK in the end.

And because Charnley, Ashley and Bishop are not football people, are they able to spot the signs that the coach s struggling?

I think a blind person could see that the coach is struggling.

Benitez wants to come to a Premiership club.  FFS get him sorted.

I think he might go back to Chelsea.

LOL. He couldn't even get the Spurs job if it where available. Valencia, another Spanish club, maybe Italy, random ass club in Europe/Turkey or midtable PL mediocrity for Benitez. Should probably try his hand at international management.

I've just caught up with the Benitez interview. The club must be absolute mugs if they don't do whatever it takes to get him asap if he wants to return to the Premier League. The only other clubs that could potentially be interested in him that he'd consider going to would be Everton as Martinez isn't exactly held in high regard at the minute and maybe Chelsea again if they fail to secure a top target.

Give him a mega bonus for keeping us up. Sorted, build for mediocrity and cups (which he is good at) next season. Makes far too much sense though.

That points gained is incorrect as those stats include cup games, it's why graeme souness is so bloody high-up.

Harsh he's a very good manager imo

I'd be fine with him being sacked if it meant us bringing in someone with Charisma and talent that would make a difference. However, I don't see that happening, at all. If McClaren goes it will be someone like Moyes or Pulis that comes in imo. I don't think they would make a shred of difference, might as well keep McClaren and hope he makes a breakthrough with the shit mindset years of Pardew has hammered into them.

 good catch. no idea why I'd think the historical record on wikipedia would be league only. cba to go back manager by manager and sort it all out though.
