Just because he doesn't have enough experiance doesn't mean Harper is better. I think he is going in the right direction and we need to back him.... He is the future no 1 and he needs to remaine in the team.

indeed, the big decision will come next season when hopefully Harper is fucked off.

I'd sell Harper in the winter window, get a mill or so in and his wages off the books. Possibly bring back Forster and send Harper to Celtic. Whatever, as long as Harper starts making exit plans I'm not too fussed.

I honestly think we'll see a lot of improvement if Harper becomes fit again and Pardew tells Kurl "you're my man" - that kind of confidence will be huge for Kurl I reckon.

Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul will be part of Edwin van der Sar’s legacy when he leaves Manchester United

Edwin van der Sar might well retire at the end of this season but Manchester United’s Dutch goalkeeper will be leaving behind a lasting legacy in the Premier League thanks to Newcastle counterpart Tim Krul.

 

Van der Sar has acted as something of a mentor to young compatriot Krul who has used the Manchester United goalkeeper as a source of inspiration both as a schoolboy and as a Premier League rookie in his journey from bit-part player to key figure for Newcastle United.

 

“The first time I met him was three years ago, the first time I was on the bench away at Man U and I had a conversation with him,” Krul, 22, said.

 

“I was an unused substitute but I just remember watching him to be honest. I didn’t watch much else of the game. I don’t think he had much to do. I remember warming up – I think it was with Harps [steve Harper] – and I had to go on the halfway line because Steve was kicking and I was just watching the other side.

 

“Afterwards I waited for him after the game in the tunnel and he just took me aside for 20 minutes and said all the right things, he said be patient and that sort of thing and it was nice to hear those words from a person like him.”

 

“He told me go on loan, make your mistakes and get your experience. That was great for me because he is my main idol.”

 

Krul, who will welcome Van der Sar’s Manchester City neighbours when they visit the North-East on Boxing Day, knows he has a hard act to follow to enhance the reputation of Dutch goalkeepers in the Premier League and the childhood hero remains his role model.

 

“If I can even achieve half of what he has achieved then I will be a happy man,” added Krul, who heeded his countryman’s advice and spent time on loan at Falkirk and Carlisle.

 

“Edwin Van der Sar is someone I look up to – he is the main man. Every time I see him in action it is great. He was my idol when I was younger and he won the Champions League at Ajax and I’ve never stopped following him since then. To see him at Man U and what he does there is fantastic.

 

“What he has done for club and country to win 130 caps is just fantastic. With him you always see that if a goal goes in it is never really his fault. Of course he makes the odd mistakes but generally he has everything covered. His angles. Because of his experience if it goes in it goes in but his focus on the game is fantastic and you can learn a lot when you see him play.”

 

Krul has done Van der Sar proud since taking over from the fit-again Harper after he sustained a shoulder injury and is determined not to relinquish the first-team spot with his colleague having returned to training this week following shoulder surgery.

 

“I am massively keen to hold on to the first-team spot even when Steve comes back,” Krul continued. “I have had a sniff of it now and I don’t want to give it away. But Steve will be the first to say that you want to keep the jersey and he wants it back.

 

“It feels great to be part of the team. Last year we won the Championship but I only played three games. Now I feel very different – part of something massive.

 

“It’s always been a dream of mine to play in the Premier League but I had to be patient last year. I have always been lucky that I have been playing with the national team at Under-21 level and that has always kept me going.

 

“Steve has been the first to tell me that he was in my position [as Shay Given’s understudy] and it is worth it. He always told me that my chance would come. It is going to be a really good competition and I am really looking forward to it. I just have to keep on doing what I have been doing and get the results for the team.”

His 2nd big mistake this season(Arsenal 0-4 Carling Cup and today), but he´ll learn from this. Did play some good games after his mistake against Arsenal also. I think Harper will start against Spurs, but I don´t think Krul deserve to be dropped. Wouldn´t have happen the other way if Harper had made a few mistakes...

I don't think Harper will start - not after Pardew said that Krul is his number 1 and Harper needs more games.
