Big Geordie
An awful statement, but it's to be expected from the clueless arsehole.
Dave
Another fun part to consider is that by all accounts, once Kevin Gameiro had moved on 12th June (a bloke who it was claimed all along had no desire to join us) our priority striking target was Mevlut Erdinc. His agent was quoted on 9th July saying he had decided not to leave PSG. BBC Newcastle reported we had given up all hope of signing him on 2nd August. I guess 4-7 weeks wasn't long enough to figure out anything else. KNEE-JERKTASTIC.
Heron
I didn't think it was a terrible statement as such. It's just not a true one that's all. Clearly had plenty of time to scout and sign someone - so an apology would have been nice.
quayside
He should have kept his mouth shut I've never ever seen a statement from a chairman explain transfer window failings. They f***ed up, we knew that. Amateurish once again. I remember that, following mass outrage from the fan base, Shepherd stuck out a statement defending the club's efforts in the market one year. I think it was the Duff, Sibierski, Rossi on loan window.
Dave
Don't see why they'd feel the need to apologise. They believe the transfer window was a huge success, to not to have to spend any money is just a big fat fucking bonus. They'll be feeling smug as fuck, and nobody will convince me otherwise. If they'd wanted a striker they'd have bought one of the many we were supposedly interested in.

What I mean is if we desired to sign a striker too, and didn't it wasn't a successful window, surely? Like I say, had it all been truth it was quite a good statement, but once again it was riddled with lies.

AyeDubbleYoo
Ill-advised statement really, there's nothing they could do to appease fans who were only interested in whether or not we signed a striker. Better just keep quiet, although they would be slaughtered for that as well. FWIW what he said is probably accurate except the bit about Obertan being brought in early. It always seemed like we were trying to sign a striker, that wasn't the problem. If there was a problem it was that they wouldn't pay enough.

Dave
Luckily all the other clubs will have forgotten that we didn't buy a striker by January, and they'll have also forgotten that 12 months earlier we received £35m which hasn't (openly) been spent. There are loads of very good players available in January and prices are always reasonable.

Besides...that'sa longer transfer window in January, so we have more time to scout at the start of it and whack in bids before deadline day... Dokko
Funny how Pardew's name hasn't been attached to this statement by higher, management, for once direct, skipped outthemiddle man. Has Pardew said enough is enough? Either no I'm not saying anything because you keep making me look like a mug or he's said they'll simply not, listen to anything I say anymore? Obviously I can't prove what the club were about but I actually think funds were there for a striker and they really tried to buy a striker several times, and Llambias f*cked up. Bringing any one of these strikers in involved negotiations, they weren't available for free or wanting to apply release clauses or handed to us on a plate. And DL is just not up to it when it's not straightforward.

Obviously we didn't get one, that's a blow, but it doesn't mean that a decent transfer window has suddenly become the worst ever.

Disco
He should have kept his mouth shut I've never ever seen a statement from a chairman explain transfer window failings. They fucked up, we knew that. Amateurish once again. Bingo. The one time they don't need to make a statement they do, the numerous times they could clear things up they don't. Typical. Guest
This wasn't even in the top 5 worst windows of the last 10 years man. Selling Milner & buying Xisco...finishing 3rd and only signing Bowyer, selling Woodgate leaving us with Robbie frigging Elliott pretty much a regular for 4 months, using the Woodgate money 4 months later to sign Boumsong, Babayaro & Faye and letting Bernard go, selling Carroll leaving us with Peter frigging Lovenkrands for 4 months, etc.

I would suggest that's the case this time. Whether or not you believe that Pardew is complicit in our reluctance to spend, he's the one who has been wheeled out time and again to look like a cunt in front of the world's media and the fans. He's implied a few times this summer that he wasn't prepared to be caught out like he was when Carroll was sold. Well he has been.

We needed a centre-back before we sold Woodgate also when you think we only had Bramble and O'Brien after that. Same's happened again.
