Mick
Maybe, but for different reasons. We're talking a lack of ambition and that's the market boy. I agree and I'd take the same gamble again, even though we could get worse than Ashley.

Ashley didn't save the club from going bust despite the propaganda to the contrary and going bust would be the worst thing. Taking money from the fans while showing no ambition is as bad as it gets while the club is a going entity.
TaylorJ_01
Woah there We hardly robbed PSG, we should have pushed for a lot more. No way is Cabaye a £40m player.
henke
It doesn't matter if he's £40mil player or a ten bob player because the income isn't fed back into the club. If PSG had have been daft enough to pay £40mil its not like Ashley would have kept twenty for himself and brought a decent replacement in.

I don't want to get into that again, it's been done to death but we can both probably agree that what we have now isn't good enough. I watched an old bloke who looked to be in his 70's at the match yesterday at half time and just thought that his last memories of a derby might be getting stuffed while the club treads water, that's shite. Mick
No way is Cabaye a £40m player. He was worth a lot more than what we received. Mata and Ozil were not as important to the teams they played for than Cabaye was worth to us.

Aye but Cabaye isn't in that world class bracket that the other 2 are - he'd improve both Arsenal and Man Utd IMO but he's not quite good enough to build your team around in the way those 2 sides are doing with Ozil/Mata. Mick
Ozil is on another planet to Cabaye, in terms of ability and achievements. We could have perhaps got another £5m or so for Cabaye, but howay. The value of the players are relative to what they give the teams, we're potentially a shambles without Cabaye. Our shitty manager has used the sale as justification to abandon the type of football most of us look forward to watching.

I agree we should have tried to fleece PSG, we didn't get the maximum price we could have done from that deal. But anyone saying we had any hope in hell of getting £35m-45m for him is off their rocker IMO.

Vinny Green Balls
Why is it so hard to understand that the value of a player can be much greater to the club he is at than the outside world? He may have not been worth 30m on the market, but I am convinced that he was worth that to us and our quality of football.
Dave
Got to be difficult to extract the maximum fee for a player you've already told can leave. PSG would quite obviously be aware of this.

Time will tell in the PL. Cabaye is a top class player who was able to successfully transition to the PL and be a major influence. Ozil has time because he hasn't been here long but whatever he's done before, which to be honest, is ok but doesn't make him worth £40m imo. If Ozil is worth £40m Cabaye is worth similar despite not looking so fancy on the ball, so based on the evidence, we'll have to agree to disagree. That was different though - Carroll's value at that time was realistically about £20m but you added £5m because he's a striker, another £5m because he's English and another £5m because he was in an insanely rich vein of form for 12 months, way beyond what we've seen with Cabaye IMO. yiman
We're all not sure of the right way to evict the shit , but PR is huge , the questions in the newspapers to AP are a start, what we need to do is keep all these questions alive and an ongoing debate.......... why are newcastle still not answering questions? whats the stuff we don't know behind the scenes etc, etc. Ashley clearly likes the gamble, the win, look at the Debenhams share finesse , it was all about proving his cleverness. We need to get him into the situation any gambler doesn't like where the odds look like shit so it's more and more pain of everything NUFC is just negative So support every e-media forum , comments to the media , don't let a positive result distract you ..... go for the long game .... keep on message..... We cannot affect his financial control but we can make every other element of his ownership painful or unsatisfying
alexf
I am starting to wonder if he's beginning to plot his exit strategy? He's been tight for ages but the way it is now I wonder if he's getting ready to sell up and focus all his attention on Rangers?
