TRon
Something Alan Curbishley said after the game about us only needing a couple of wins and we're practically safe so Ashley might well be tempted to leave Carver in charge for the rest of the season rings true. Some tricky fixtures coming up and it might be tempting to leave them to Carver to deal with rather than throw a new manager in there. It's going to make the rest of this season torture though. JH
Footie legend Gazza's beaten the booze and is after a top job at Newcastle Utd By Felicity Cross / Published 2nd January 2015 Superstar Geordie Gazza is working hard to bag a top managerial role at his beloved Newcastle United, where he began his stellar footie career. After a stint in rehab in Spain, the England hero is off the booze, back to full health and looking for a fresh career start. And he reckons now is the time to seize the momentum and get back in the dressing room. He wants to coach upcoming new Geordie talent and help create potential stars for the England squad of the future. He’s set his sights on a top coaching role at favourite club Newcastle as debate rages over the future of the team’s management. In a series of tweets to his 24,000 followers, he backed fellow Geordie hero Peter Beardsley, 53, for the vacant manager’s job at St James Park after Alan Pardew left the club this week. And Gazza, 47, is now relying on Beardsley - his former teammate at the Magpies - to sign him up for a key right-hand-man job in 2015. His appointment would be the ideal boost for the club after its 3-3 draw with lowly Burnley at St James’ Park yesterday. He wrote: “I really would give Peter Beardsley the Newcastle job. “His knowledge on playing players and egos are second to none. “A number one Geordie. “I would work with Peter Beardsley being the manager and Carver the right hand man.” Beardsley played alongside Gazza for two years at the north east club and is currently its football development manager. John Carver, who was born in Newcastle and has stepped in as caretaker manager until a permanent boss is found, also played at St James Park for two years in the 1980s. And fans were quick to back Gazza’s planned Geordie dream team so their side could challenge for silverware once again. James T wrote online: “True Geordies on the sidelines, that’s what the sleeping giant needs.” DogMan said: “Go for it Gazza lad, you’ll get an interview.” And The Stone added: “Would love to see this happen #ANewStart” In case his north east return does not come through, Gazza also sent a come-and-get-me plea to his former boss at Rangers, Walter Smith. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/418016/Gazza-s-beaten-the-booze-and-is-after-a-top-job-at-Newcastle

SUPERTOON
It's all gone very quiet. Can't see anything other than Carver getting the job All the media were saying the other day that Charnley and Carr are in charge of drawing up a short list of candidates for when Ashley is back of holiday. All reports have also said we will be taking our time. Would expect more news next week considering Carver was put in charge for this weekend as well anyway.
