Ronaldo
I wouldn't mind seeing him as a central striker in a 4-3-3 i suppose, not suggesting it in that current system works well and i want to see cisse scoring again but this could be a nice formation to control games possession wise Krul Deb Yanga-Mbiwa Colo Santon Tiote Anita Cabaye Sissoko HBA Gouffran Anita for Cisse. No offence intended but that's the stupidest thing I'll read this week.
Tiresias
:'( In the last 10 mins lol It only came about of me pondering how Gouffran would work upfront
Ronaldo
Anita's not up to yet it imo and Cisse's my favourite player, so bias comes into it, I guess.

Gallowgate Toon
Not too convinced Gouffran would work that well in a central role here, as a stand-in perhaps, but not permanently. A lot of his goals in France were Ba-esque finishes in the box, mainly from crosses, but I think he'd really struggle to find space in the same way with more hands-on defenders. His best role is coming in to the box from wide and causing havoc with his movement. He'll get plenty of goals from there IMO.

Ba works best centrally and Gouffran went from a fairly infrequent scorer to someone getting 1 in 2 when moved centrally. I am certainly in no rush to move him as he has been exceptionally floating about for us and I have full confidence in Cisse but if he had to move into a more central position I would have very little concerns about him doing the job. Hanshithispantz
I have a small inkling that Papiss Cisse is probably a far better striker and goal-scorer than Gouffran and we should probably leave him where he is.
Gallowgate Toon
I agree he could do a job, but the majority of his goals when moved central for Bordeaux were finishes in the box from crosses/scrambles. That's OK in this league with a more strong, determined striker like Ba, but in the box defending is far more powerful here than in France, and I think Gouffran would struggle to get those opportunities while more closely marked. Cajun
Is defending that much more powder puff in France? I don't know much about ligue 1 but it doesn't come across like eredivise and a lot of good defenders come out of that league.
Hanshithispantz
Ibra has a similar record this season in France to what he did last season in Italy if that means anything (it's slightly better like).

I don't know much about ligue 1 but it doesn't come across like eredivise and a lot of good defenders come out of that league. There's physical defenders in Ligue 1 but the style of play they defend against and consequent defensive attitude is completely different. Defending there is more tactical and subtle, here centre backs are far more hands-on, particularly in the box with shirt-pulling, holding and general scuffling going on. That's natural though, as the majority of teams in the league cross the ball a lot instead of playing it into the box, so teams set up to counter that. I just don't think Gouffran's got that level of power in him to make it work as a lead striker here, especially considering the way we play. His wide role was different at Bordeaux too, he was more of a winger when played there, not a wing forward, and they didn't have a tendency to knock lots of balls in like we do. I think he'll get plenty of opportunities playing where he is now, it suits his game more, which is based around quick and intelligent movement, especially with Debuchy's delivery improving. Its a lot like Italy from back in the day actually except the attacking and midfield players don't have anywhere near the same talent. But defensively and physique wise its a very tough league, its just very slow and lacks talent in some cases. Probably why we scout there tbf because physical wise there is not a lot to adapt to, even if this league is a lot quicker as Debuchy and Sissoko have said. Magpie
Few blokes who sit behind me at the match hate this bloke like, constantly going on saying he's shite and was just a panic buy.
