themanupstairs
Being linked with the french players isn't even fun anymore. Proves that we're "un-earthing" f*** all. We're just going after players who have had some sort of success in the french league that we may not have heard about as much. Would be good to sign properly scouted players from other random leagues. The last proper "gem" that we discovered was probably Tiote? Players the press link us with doesnt prove anything to be honest, 99% are made up. Of course they are. But the reason the press makes up this shit is because we only seem to be looking in France based on the last 2 or 3 transfer windows.
Ste
Really not fussed where they come from as long as they are good players. Yep. Unless we ever get back into Europe and have to adhere to the home grown rule.

LoveItIfWeBeatU
http://www.thejournal.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-add-right-back-serge-6911520 Newcastle United add right-back Serge Aurier to their summer hit-list Apr 03, 2014 08:54 By Mark Douglas Newcastle United have added a goalkeeper and a right-back to their summer hit-list after it emerged they have run the rule on talented Toulouse right-back Serge Aurier. The 21-year-old has been watched on a number of occasions by United scouts, who will be well aware of the growing interest of Paris-Saint Germain in reuniting Yohan Cabaye and Mathieu Debuchy in Ligue 1 next season. Newcastle do not want to sell Debuchy but interestingly, one of the reasons why a move for the player fell through in the summer of 2012 was because of a perceived lack of sell-on value for the 28-year-old. If PSG are now prepared to double the money that Newcastle spent on the France international, they may be prepared to do business – if a suitable replacement has already been sourced. No doubt that will already add to the sense of unease on Tyneside about a summer rebuilding job which will see most of the squad under scrutiny. The Journal revealed earlier in the week that Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa’s name is one that might be circulated to interested clubs in the summer, while Shola Ameobi is almost certain to leave Newcastle in the summer. Unhappy Steven Taylor’s future is also up in the air, with Steve Bruce keen to take him to Hull City in the summer if Newcastle make him available. His high wages may make him a prohibitive target for the Tigers, though. Interestingly Newcastle have also continued to monitor PSV Eindhoven goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet, who has pushed himself into the reckoning for the Holland squad in recent weeks, and that also raises the possibility of United bringing in competition for Tim Krul – who has had an up-and-down campaign. Intriguingly, United are also aware that Fraser Forster may become available in the summer. The sudden appearances of Mike Ashley at Newcastle games has coincided with the owner delivering reassurances to key men in the United hierarchy that the club will spend this summer to reinvigorate the squad. He has been told that Newcastle need at least six or seven new first-team ready players and that message has been received, although that recruitment is likely to run alongside some high-profile departures. Even during the derided Joe Kinnear days United were maintaining a watching brief in Ligue 1, the Eredivisie and Switzerland’s top flight. Newcastle scouts were spotted at SC Heerenveen’s recent clash with Vitesse Arnhem – a match that saw the division’s top scorer Alfred Finnbogason score his 25th of the campaign. Newcastle have long had an interest in the Iceland international although it remains to be seen whether he will fit the criteria set for United’s summer recruitment drive.
