NUFC 0-1 Beasts (Defoe)  :(

I don't even think we'll score against them (yet again).

Got this awful feeling we're going to get done by another dodgy refereeing decision against these again. Notice the ref for the last derby hasn't reffed a Newcastle match since. Looks like it's Martin Atkinson on Sunday.

Not trying to stick up for them but if I were in their shoes I'd be very confident as well. They know how to get the better of us in this fixture and they have a team of grafters who will play out of their skin for this one off game whereas we have a team full of cowards (6 defeats out of 6 for Sissoko who will do another one if his disappearing acts when the tackles fly in). Added to that they have Defoe who only needs a sniff of the goal to hit the back of the net whilst we have Mitrovic who is more likely to get sent off than score. Add that to the luck they seem to carry against us and it all points to an away win.

Cheer up for f***s sakes.  We've got Rafa Benitez and at the end of the day we're playing one of the worst teams in the league.

One of the worst teams but they're still above us. Not only that but they've beat us 6 times in a row, albeit heavily paedo assisted so they don't really count for much. I think Rafa is a great manager but he can't physically go on the pitch and score the goals Mitrovic should be scoring or head away the crosses Taylor should be clearing.  I suppose we'll find out in just over 72 hours.

Didn't we beat them 5 in a row before they started getting the better of us? That counted for nothing in the 6th game so what is stopping us from turning it around again? All good things come to an end, maybe it's time for us to get on top again.

Us having a team full of cowards who fold at the first sign of having to roll their sleeves up and battle is the main thing stopping us. We still have a core of players here who have failed to turn up time and time again against these. I hope they prove me wrong but I doubt it.

Self preservation or did your mam throw your happy pills away?

Just basing my opinion on what I've seen of this NUFC team over the last few years in general and in particular against them. Like I said earlier let's just see what happens.

Our shitty managers have been as much of a problem as our players.  I can't see our players bottling this weekend with Benitez picking the team.

Sincerely hope you're right. If he can totally change the attitude and mentality of this group of players in little over a week then he's a miracle worker in my opinion.

I could see signs of a change after 3 days.

Same. I remember looking at the screen v Leicester and at one point our defence and midfield were so beautifully organised it was incredible.

They were tight and the movement was night and day compared to the last few years. He's had another week to drill them, it's going to be fine.

Love how confident you are regarding Rafa. I'm excited as hell about him, got nowhere near the same confidence as you though, wish I did mind.

Had to laugh today like. 2 of the mackems teamed up on me and gave it the whole "six in a row" nonsense claiming we'd be "chewing the fat in the Toon after another defeat." To which I replied  "wasn't it something daft like 20 years before you finally beat us on home soil. The 3rd who was listening in pulled some sort of twisty face as though I was being childish and said "Yeah it must be daft cause that didn't happen." I got home and checked on the Internet[emoji38]28 years from 1980 to 2008 before they finally recorded another home win against us.[emoji38]can dish it out but not take it the fucking paedos

There is no doubt in Rafa we have a top manager and the performance against Leicester was a huge improvement. I fully expect us to be by a distance the better side, to have the better chances. However due to a small oversight by the club recruitment policy where we have failed to recognise the importance of having strikers who can hit a cows arse with a shovel I fear a 1-0 defeat. Sunderland are shite but Defoe can put a chance away.

Living in hope that one of our lot takes the opportunity of following in the steps of wor Shola in despite being largely clueless grasping the mantle of being the new Makem slayer.

He's class, just having him has given everybody a lift, we're not the same club that we were this time last week.

The omens are not good for Sunderland this time. This run has to come to and end sometime and I think this weekend might be it. You've pulled our trick of appointing a new manager just before the derby, and no matter how poor your team has been, they seem to take it up a gear for a new boss. We should know we've seen in plenty of times.

I'll take a terrible 0-0 now.

Totally agree. It's a lift for everyone in the city, let alone the players.

I think he'll do the business for us.

Yann M'Vila

He remains “ready to chat” about the possibility of staying on next season and is enjoying life in an area where he even has a French neighbour. “I can sometimes see Moussa [Newcastle’s Sissoko] from my window – he lives just over the road,” he says. “We flew back together from Paris the other week but we don’t really talk about the derby game.”

Hmm, I wonder if Sissoko lives in Sunderland or M'Vila lives in Newcastle. Wonder if they used Newcastle airport
