Rafa Benitez issues key message after victory against Heart of Midlothian

Newcastle used 22 players at Tynecastle but Rafa Benitez was still keen to point out that new blood is needed at United

Rafa Benitez was a satisfied manager after Newcastle United’s 2-1 win at Heart of Midlothian on Friday night - but insists he is still looking to add to his squad.

United went into the weekend in talks with Norwich City to sign England Under-21 winger Jacob Murphy and Benitez knows he will have to move some players in before deadline day .

Benitez used 22 players in the win at Hearts and after the game he commented: “In the first game you are always sure you will do something right and you will especially do something wrong.

“You need to adjust the team.

“Then hopefully we can bring some players and add to what we are looking for.”

Benitez was able to hand one debut out at Tynecastle with Florian Lejeune putting in a good shift in the second half.

The Toon boss said: “He was winning some headers which we were expecting.

“On the ball he was good.

“He is another good addition.”

The second half proved to be a scrappy affair but Benitez wasn’t expecting anything less.

He said: “With the team training everyday they don’t have full match fitness so the game was fine.

“We scored some goals and it was a good test.

“You need to change players and the game stops and starts.

“The second half is always more difficult but the second half was good and quite entertaining.”

Dwight Gayle proved to be Newcastle’s hero against the Scottish Premiership side with Benitez delighted to see the number 9 bag two goals.

He said: “Strikers scoring goals is always the key, it keeps them happy and the others work harder.

“It was really good for him and also for the team, when you score early it gives you more confidence.”

I can understand your worries and frustration but I think some of you need to calm down a wee bit. I wouldn't say Rafa is 100% happy but currently I would say your situation is DEFCON 4.

When it hits DEFCON 2, you will know - Articles will come from at least 6-12 journos from England and Spain including the national ones with the same message.

When the situation is DEFCON 1, you will truly know. That is the time to truly panic. Rafa is no coward. When he is genuinely unhappy, he comes out swinging at the owners. He made the following statement to the press against Moratti "There are three possibilities for the club. One, 100% support for the coach and buy four or five players to build a stronger team with competition among the players to be able to carry on winning matches and trophies. Two, carry on like this without a project, without planning, and go ahead with one person to blame, for the whole season. The third," he added, "is to speak to my agent to reach an agreement if there is not this support. Simple." Against his Valencia bosses "I was hoping for a sofa and they've brought me a lamp." He has made similar statements against LFC bosses.

Do you think he will have any qualms about openly attacking Ashley?  When he is unhappy to the point of being ready to walk away, there wont be any ambiguity in the message. Until that happens, no point worrying and perusing each statement in local journos articles.

“Hopefully, Mike can keep his word and we can do what we want to do.”

Well that quote's not very promising

Sounds to me like a last stand before calling it quits - "Mike can keep his word" not very good as he obviously is now so pissed off that he is actually questioning the owners validity - good luck on that Rafa is stinks of the same scenario what happened with Keegan.

RB: “When I had the meeting with Mike Ashley I was confident that after that meeting we have the money available and the wages…

Ergo he's asking for players within the budget he's been promised, doing the groundwork and they're fucking about.

See also Keegan, Kevin.

He's openly challenging the owner's sincerity. Nowt to worry about though.

It's agendas.
