Is 'prepared to' and we are 'monitoring'  his preparedness. Just do it.

most other cloobs would have this done now- and be spending time on the next deal. this is our problem, we fuck about too much on each deal slowing eveything further on, down. Rafa will get sick of the shit imo.

It will happen. Just the usual haggling from us.

It's already gone from 16 to 12m and the lad obviously wants to join.

That's the reason it will happen tbh. If he was like most players and happy to move to the highest bidder he'd probably end up somewhere else while we fucked around haggling for the cheapest deal possible.

Shepherd assumed the same with Carrick and look what happened there. We still have to pay the relevant fee.

Or if we are worried about overpaying £2-3m we could always pay the £20-30m that other premiership clubs are paying for proven players. I won't be unrealistic and expect us to compete with the top clubs who are paying £50-90million for players this season.

Not a chance we'll pay £16m for him though, we literally reckon he's worth half that. Which isn't a good start.

We'll get him, but can see this taking ages to sort out.  Think of the wages saved though.

This. Probably £10m with possible £2m add ons if they agree we don't have to pay his wages until Sep 1st

Lad wants to join, Norwich have lowered their asking price. Absolutely no confidence in Charnley getting this done.

Shooting fish in a barrel this one. Might as well close shop if we can't do this deal.

Not clear whether Caulkin's tweet means £10m is Norwich's asking price or it's what we're offering.

I'd guess that's our offer, as reports earlier in the week suggested our 'take it or leave it' offer was £10m. Adding potential future top ups means if he does well, we (hopefully) do well, and the top ups are deserved.

Signed by early next week then. There's quite obviously other factors at play here, slowing things down, than an incompetent Charnley. He managed about six hundred deals last summer, so he can certainly move quickly when he's allowed to.

That's true. He headhunted Steve McClaren, a sure sign of his competency if ever there was one.
