Why does that complicate anything? If they're willing to sell him now for £30m (inevitably paid over 5-6 years anyway) then what's the difference between that and us paying £5m loan fee now with option to buy at £25m at the end of the season?

Might be worth more than £30m at the end of the season

Aye but they're perfectly happy to sell now for £30m apparently.  If they just weren't willing to sell now and only willing to loan in the hope of his price rising I could understand it, but not in this case.  Sounds more like we've just made no effort to get a future fee agreed.

Nailed it.

If we have almost the same squad as we ended last season with then we're not in a bad place.

Kenedy and Dubravka sorted, Lascelles and Lejeune looking strong, Shelvey and Diame on top of their game and Ayoze fulfilling his obvious potential. We looked excellent at the end of the season and while nothings a given you know that Rafa wouldn't let their standards fall.

The loss of Merino while disappointing, after his early promise, isn't really going to impact as he hardly featured once we started improving.

The unity and desire the team showed was amazing and while Rafa will not want to risk upsetting that, two or three decent signings and replacements for those yet to leave will put us in pretty good shape for next season.

Plus profit, don’t forget the profit.

I’d like more natural creative flair in the centre, someone who can bring the ball forward and play it about a bit because Perez often has to drop too deep to try and do that and if we are playing one up front it leaves us isolated and makes us rely on the counter too much. Someone like Merino for example would be good...

We are desperate for a striker. So many points dropped last season through squandered chances (like spurs away). Bring in a finisher and i think we could be ok.

Bet merino has a clause we could exploit.

 Go as far as to say I'd be looking forward to the start of the season if we bring a decent one in.

These cunts extract the joy out of everything like. Getting a player we already had, but only on loan because 'we can't afford him' apparently. [emoji38] They're the Dementors from Harry Potter.

If he has a good season he'll be out of our price range, can't see any win to a straight loan.

Unless Rafa can work some magic mid-season and secure a deal, but then why would he - unless things change drastically in the next 4 weeks its hard to see how he'll still be here next season.

Effectively we lose regardless.

Kenedy has a great year, the price tag goes up. We won’t pay the fee now and certainly won’t pay a higher fee next year. We’ve seasoned a player for Chelsea to sell to someone else.

Kenedy has a poor year, the price tag maybe stays the same. We won’t pay the fee now and presumably won’t pay it next year either. Ashley decides Kenedy is crap after a poor year and lets him go.

I honestly see no reason to get behind a player who we have no intention of buying, there should always be an obligation or an option to buy otherwise we are just doing Chelsea a favor again. What a fucking club we support.
