Abra Dubravka Posted March 7, 2021 Share Posted March 7, 2021 Would have been far better option to have around than Joelinton, Gayle, Muto, Joselu in hindsight Like Toney, he doesn’t develop the way he has if he’d have stayed and not got games though. Should have stuck in a few clauses for any future sale, or buy back. Scored goals in Championship when he was out on loan, so would have been obvious to think he’d get PL interested as soon as he had a bumper season down there like he has done. Yeah sad it didn't work out, feel he got hyped a bit early so got sent out on loan quite early and then difficult to keep him since he wanted and was used to first team football elsewhere. Armstrong went on loan to Cov in league one 2015-16 and scored 20 in 40. Would've made sense to have him around the team in the Championship the following season. There’d have been uproar. It was just a circumstance of time. Really don’t know why it’s an ongoing issue. The Chronicle are absolutely fixated with it too. Young players don’t show much at the top but later develop given playing time against inferior competition. Happens to every club. Neither Armstrong nor Toney were PL quality (or even Championshop quality at that time) when they played for us and we weren’t exactly going to keep them on the books until they figured it out.
