Will be surprised to see anyone challenge them strongly for the league in the next season or two. - Ederson, Steffen - Walker, Dias, Stones, Ake, Zinchenko, Laporte, Mendy, Cancelo - Gundogan, Grealish, Rodrigo, De Bruyne, Silva, Fernandinho, Foden - Sterling, Jesus, Torres, Mahrez I think their second 11 is good enough to qualify for Champions League. They are missing a top striker which I think they will address with Kane. From an England point of view, I hope Pep plays an attack of Sterling, Foden, Grealish for some games. If the three build some understanding, hopefully it will help England in the next world cup. the same way the chemistry of his Barcelona team helped Spain. They're missing a top class centre forward, but that lineup is plenty good enough to dominate for years to come.
Tiresias
have a suspicion pep will basically play foden with grealish behind and it be a pretty incredible even if they don't get kane.

He's achieved everything and has enough money to buy the fucking planet 3 times, why not just put his feet up? A one club man with Barcelona his entire career is surely worth more than a couple of years playing for the French Harlem Globetrotters. I'm not saying he has to retire, if he wants to keep playing obviously, but not sure why it hasn't been mentioned at all.

Or for that matter, people who achieve his level of success in every walk of life, very rarely think like us. The level of ambition which drives them is not something we can comprehend. And it is not like he is going to some backwater place in search of money. Being paid 100s of millions to live in Paris for a couple of years, how many people would say no to that. Might be a great experience for his kids, family, etc. PSG seems to have a really good marketing team with their Jordan partnership. Maybe he thinks this move and the associated connections will help him rake in more money once he retires.

Scotty66
I say it everytime but Messi should have signed for some mid table prem side, or one of his close to heart teams in Argentina. He doesn't need the money, he's won the major trophies, why not make yourself an instant club legend by signing for a team that will never ever be able to afford a player anywhere near his calibre. The respect he would get would be immense and always remembered. I mean imagine him signing for someone like Wolves on 30k a week, it would be absolutely bonkers and give every single fan a smile on their face for the entire season. That's proper football, not just joining a team that can throw money at whoever they want in order to claim they're "The best"
Super Duper Branko Strupar
In a way, I cant wait for the cult of Ronaldo and Messi to end when theyve both retired. They've brought about, through no fault of their own, the absolute worst kind of football fan. "Ronaldo is at Real so I support Real", "Now he's at Juve I support Juve". "I used to support Barca cos Leo was there now I support PSG". "Ronaldo or Messi Ronald or Messi". What about the rest of the team, or the league? God forbid the area and the history. Also the business of football and sport have created such a foul tasting aura around them with a horrible commercialisation of them as individuals. Totally detracting from football itself. I mean I love watching both quite obviously, but Im sick to fucking death of the business of them. Even more the consumers of that business. I'm quite happy in the fact the next super instah fan footballer protégé in Mbappe, isn't going to cut it. Pogba fans will follow him, Mbappe fans will follow him. It hasn't been exclusive to those two neither by the way, Zlatan has had a massive "cult following" (obviously been much more prevalent in here in Sweden), wherever has had chosen to pick up his paycheck for example. Moving to Newells would be more understandable but Tim Vickery had a great article a few months ago basically saying Argentine domestic football is an absolute mess and there's no way Messi would move there with the state it's in. Kimbo
Ultimately it's his life and his talent to do what he wants with. As a football fan the idea of going back to Argentina or going for a real challenge is romantic, but he probably feels he's challenged himself enough at club level, and perhaps he see's playing in Europe's 5th best league as better preparation for the world cup next year than coming to the premier league, which might end up being a mistake. It would have been great to see him go to Serie A to haunt Ronaldo, but they're all pretty broke. I found it interesting that it was only a 2 year deal, I expect he could've got 1 or 2 more years, but 2 years just takes him past the world cup. I reckon this is his last contract. Last post from me on this just so I dont derail the thread. But I dont at all mind fans of individual players. Or global superstars. In my lifetime I've loved players because of their individuality. Figo, Totti, Zidane, Beckham. There's shitloads. Its Messi v Ronaldo I dont like and the "hype" that's created around it. The artificial hype, more so than two fans talking it out between them. Just feels awfully fake. Which is awful to associate with two of the worlds greatest footballers of all time. Kind of wish they were around in different times to each other so you could just appreciate a footballer without everything that inevitably comes next.
