Not that I hold out much hope of us being rid of Ashley whilst there's still money to be diverted but I did say that if it did happen that it would be on something like a damp, dark Thursday out of the blue.

Well today meets them requirements ahead of the sunrise so over to you, karma.

I imagine the impending court case is a factor in this, so if the takeover does go through all the current admin staff will get the bullet

It's not even December yet, lads.

Is that the equivalent of the yearly transfer-window cry of "It's not even July yet, lads"?

Before we change it sequentially to August, mid-August and then late-August before finally admitting that we need to start to panic and lower our expectations horrendously?

This isn't a transfer window and PCP/Stavely don't owe us anything.  They'll take their time to make sure this is the right club to buy.  If its true that they want this done with time to plan for the January transfer window then I'd think that they'll have to apply to the Premier League by the end of this month at the latest.

Apply for what?

Any new owner has to apply to the Premier League so they can do their "fit and proper person test".  I mean Ashley passed it so it mustn't take much to be eligible but I think it does still take a bit of time and apparently numerous new potential owners of clubs have failed it and not been allowed to take over (must be right evil cunts if they failed and Ashley passed like).

Much different now to when he came in. I'm not sure whether he'd pass or not. He'd never been bankrupt, hasn't any criminal convictions which is 90% of it.

Due diligence apparently halfway through according to the Chron.

‘FA aware that NUFC could change hands’ apparently too.

Could be completed by Christmas, providing there are no hiccups.

Cant copy and paste it due to being on my phone, but they are the key points from it.

The Christmas lights may well be in place around Newcastle city centre but as the festive period edges ever closer the only gift on the list of most members of the Toon Army is a new owner at St James’ Park.

When Mike Ashley went public about the sale of the Magpies back in October it was stated then that the tycoon was keen to get the club off his hands by Christmas.

And while that hasn’t changed, some observers have wondered whether that prospect remains realistic.

Former Newcastle captain Rob Lee recently said he’d be happy with the club being sold by the end of the season and many supporters would probably go along with that if it meant the start of a new era for United.

In recent weeks the correspondence levels at the Chronicle have increased from readers with plenty of posts, Tweets, and hand written letters querying why there has been no progress.

For some onlookers things aren’t moving quickly enough.

Comments such as “there’s nothing new to see” or “this is just a rehash” or “this is click-bait” pretty much translate to: “This isn’t the story I want to see."

You can’t blame members of a fan-base who want to see the current regime out and Amanda Staveley and PCP Partners Group firmly in the boardroom as quickly as possible.

But this was always going to take time.

Unlike Ashley’s own purchase of Newcastle United , those interested in buying the club have sensibly opted to go through the due diligence process which is now approximately at the halfway stage for Staveley and PCP.

Social media has changed the world significantly in terms of people’s expectations - but it hasn’t changed the way highly powered tycoons go about their lives on the business circuit.

Some complaints have been that “nothing has changed” when it comes to Staveley’s and PCP Partners’ bid for Newcastle.

However, since Staveley was first spotted at St James’ Park there has been plenty of progress on the deal.

It’s worth taking a breath and having a recap on what’s happened in the last six weeks.

Back on October 1, Staveley’s appearance in the stands for the 1-1 draw with Liverpool was dismissed as nothing more than a guest appearance in the VIP area.

Since then, however, her interest in the Magpies has been firmed up by those close to the deal, due diligence got underway and there’s been confirmation that PCP have indeed signed non-disclosure agreement forms.

Newcastle United also know that PCP’s valuation of the club is £300million and there have been no denials about any of the reports linking the Magpies with Staveley.

Granted, we’re yet to see a formal offer - the next key development - but things continue to tick along in the background.

It is also believed that the FA are well aware that there could be a change at Newcastle as they await a fit and proper person’s test on a new owner.

So is a sale by Christmas still really feasible?

Well, it’s certainly touch and go, but if things continue to progress the way they have so far and there are no setbacks, it’s still something that can’t be ruled out.

News of the negotiations will rumble on for the next fortnight or so but United’s current owners may well release an update at the start of December given their initial expectation of a sale was somewhere around the festive period.

After all, even when you put the takeover to one side there’s still plenty that needs to be done at St James’ Park as the club’s football operation gets ready for the second half of the season and the start of the transfer window.

Rafa Benitez, unlike last January, will have to be backed in the new year if the club want to be sure that they’ll both stay in the top-flight and remain an attractive asset to other potential buyers if the Staveley deal was to fall through for any reason.

Relegation would mean the current regime can forget about picking up anything close to £300million for the club.

With Newcastle looking like a steady outfit in the Premier League and having a world class manager on board in Benitez, there’s probably never been a better opportunity for Ashley to sell.

Nice bit of Thursday depression. Hopefully a load of Sunderland:

There's absolutely nothing there, it even resorts to a load of could be's as classic media BS demands. Don't get me wrong i wouldn't be surprised but there's nothing in there that actually suggests it would be the case.
