Find it absolutely hilarious he's the sort of player Man U would splash out £25-30m for off the back of one good half-season.

The hilarious thing was people on here getting on like nothing under £50m would be enough.

Did you buy him? If not, then you don't know how much would have been needed, clearly a lot more than the 25m you seem to think he was going for since it wasn't ever really close.

We never made an approach. We all know it wouldn't have been anywhere near £50m though.

I gather, from a reliable source, that Man U ended up offering £37m.

The lad is coming back from injury and he's having to cope with suddenly large expectations on his shoulders, in a team under pressure. It's no wonder he's struggling, but the kind of ability he showed doesn't disappear overnight.

Not to mention the lack of direction from his new gaffa right?

The fact he's being thrown in with little (or no) useful instructions while he clearly isn't fit speaks volumes of the nacka in charge.  Expect to see him scapegoated or out with long term injury soon.

Bang on. Shadow of the player he was. Not fit, no confidence, crap tactics (tactics?), crap manager who has no idea but to get his players to run as fast as possible and 'put in an effort'. He's heading for a season out with injury - as are many of our players. Poor sod has no chance but to escape.

Big Geordie gaffer tells young Geordie star who is returning from injury, just was linked with a massive move to Man United to get his mind sorted and forget about that “false” link with Man United.  Prob told him he wasn’t good enough like he was back in his day as well. Brilliant man management.

Guest chopey

Re watched the match today and this guy is so good, I think he will give Rice a real run for his money in the England squad by the end of the season, I just wish Rafa was here to take him to the next level.

More time on the bench by the looks of it as soon as Shelvey is back

Looked slow, delivery crap, ineffective physically, everything you needed from a midfielder today to show your worth in being back in the starting eleven - big fat F.

There were 3 occasions where he headed or kicked it and the ball went so high it landed about 5 yards from where he was. He’s been poor most of the season.

I think Bruce is a big factor. Every player is looking shit bar Maximin, and that's because he does everything himself and doesn't need to rely on team play. The formation is crap and we have no movement. Looks like there is no coaching bar hoof the ball as far up the field as you can.

Yep. Couldn’t agree more.

Rafa is obsessive about giving players very detailed instructions. Down to which foot they should be using in certain situations.

This must have been tremendous for a young guy like him, who clearly has the athleticism, ability and desire to compete in this league.

Now he's stuck with a manager that has no instructions or advice to give him. His career is pretty much done. He'll be hoping Man Utd come back in and can see that Bruce is messing him up.

If not, he's done. He'll show no progress again going forward and will end up a no mark player. Frightening how quickly fortunes can change under the wrong leadership. So tragic for Newcastle that it's going to end up this way for him.
