He doesn't get nice treatment on True Faith podcast this week

Love the TF podcast on a Monday - don’t disagree with anything they have said - think the whole NUFC is unanimous in their pure hatred of ‘The Cabbage One’

The one point particularly true, is that Bruce is a reflection of the club, and that's a big departure from Rafa.

Rafa was a veneer of professionalism, knowledge and ambition over a base of carelessness, stagnation and penny-pinching. And because of that, the club could do OK.

Bruce doesn't add anything, he's just another symptom of how dysfunctional the club is. Put him with the average squad we have and it starts to look really grim. Haphazard signings, a squad with big weaknesses, and a manager who doesn't have a clue how to make it more than the sum of its parts.

The three Newcastle United myths

“Well they are never happy, are they? They want to win the Champions League but they’re not in it unfortunately” – Mark Lawrenson, November 7.

Well, yes and no. Of course Newcastle United fans would like to win the Champions League. Every supporter of every club wants their team to be as successful as it can be. But that’s not the point (and it’s not Lawrenson’s point either). He is insinuating (as many other pundits have) that there is an unhelpful entitlement amongst Newcastle United supporters, a lack of gratitude for their current situation. You’re 14th in the Premier League, guys – what’s the worry?

The worry is that they support a football team that barely even tries to attack. After 84 minutes against Chelsea on Saturday, with their team 2-0 down but with a throw-in close to Chelsea’s goalline, Newcastle played the ball back down the line, then into central midfield and then to their goalkeeper. Karl Darlow launched the ball upfield and Chelsea won back possession. That’s the worry.

Newcastle rank 20th in the league for shots per game. Newcastle rank 20th in the league for shots on target per game. Newcastle rank 20th in the league for touches in the opposition box per game. Newcastle rank 20th in the league for passes in the final third per game. Newcastle rank… 19th in the league for successful passes per game. Huzzah!

“Newcastle don’t have the personnel to play any other way.”

Nonsense. They have Callum Wilson, a proven No. 9 who will score when serviced effectively and probably still score a few when he isn’t. They have Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin, two exciting wide attackers whose confidence has been shorn to the point of disillusionment (see the comments of Almiron’s agent this week for details). They have Ryan Fraser too, and a collection of capable midfield holders. They have Jamal Lewis, an excellent attacking left-back.

It is true that Newcastle don’t have a squad capable of making a sustainable challenge for a top-six place or one suited to playing all-out-attack football, but then both of those are straw-man arguments. They do have a squad that might offer more if they didn’t sit 40 yards from their own goal and hope that their goalkeeper produces consistent brilliance to keep them in matches.

“Erm, they played exactly like this under Rafael Benitez.”

They did indeed play very deep under Benitez against Big Six opponents, particularly away from home. Benitez got plenty of stick for one defeat against Manchester City in which Newcastle also barely bothered to try and attack. But here’s the thing: They didn’t always play that way.

Between January 1 and the end of 2018/19, when Benitez managed his last game, Newcastle ranked joint-sixth in the league for goals, seventh for chances created and ninth for shots and shots on target. Their five most regular attacking starters were Salomon Rondon, Ayoze Perez, Miguel Almiron, Christian Atsu and Matt Ritchie. Those options are not better than Bruce’s now, and were certainly less expensive.

But really, none of this matters. Because you do not get to tell football supporters how they should support their club, particularly those who have ploughed thousands of pounds and hours into it. There’s nothing wrong with wanting more than this (and it would be great if Bruce recognised that and was more adventurous). There’s nothing wrong with wanting your team to attack or even wondering what might happen if they didn’t sit so deep. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be entertained by your football team. Anyone that tells you otherwise is wrong.

Think I've missed something...where does Mimms say that the new owners want rid of him asap?

Said in the takeover thread that they're not impressed with him and would want him out asap

Maybe Bruce knows this as well. Hence his wierd comments about not being here for long, a few weeks back.

It does seem that the vast majority of our fans are now fed up with him and realise he is utter shit.  I wonder if it is because there are no fans in the ground, all of our games are on UK TV.  So everyone is realising just how brutally awful the tactics are?  I'm sure a lot of people who would have stuck up for him before would have enjoyed the matchday experience..... maybe   Or perhaps only ever seen us on MOTD and just repeated the media narrative about Bruce.

That said, it does seem like large chunks of the media and other fans have now caught up and are starting to point out how crap we are.  I've had a few mates who support other teams, messaging me after games saying they can't believe how crap we are.

I think when all the games are being shown on TV, a lot more fans of other teams tune in and actually get to see a lot more than just the highlights, yeah.

On top of that, they then get to see the likes of Villa vs Brighton right afterwards for comparison, and that's when it really stands out how useless the team is.

Can't remember who it was on Totally Football Show, Storey or Cox, basically refuting the 'it was the same under Rafa' bollocks and saying how Bruce basically gets an easy ride due to mates in the media and no fans in the crowd. Very refreshing to hear. May be the author of that F365 piece.

Shearer laying in to ASM is stupid, its nothing to do with his contract, he's desperate not to have a go at Bruce, it pisses me off

Really disappointing stuff from Shearer. No one in the team is producing anything of note right now. If he's not going to say anything about the manager then he shouldn't be critical of the players.

Having a go at any of our attacking players is just silly at this point. On the rare occasions we do get the ball we are all so deep it's incredibly difficult to play out from there, and so we just constantly give it back almost immediately.

"He's lazy/soft/greedy." (delete as flavour of the month changes) - English pundit on literally any non-English player.

Bruce isn't just a reflection of the club, the longer he's in charge, the team becomes a reflection of him. We see him bouncing over to the opposition dug out every game rushing over to pump the manager's hand and every staff member sitting alongside. Now his teams are rolling over, bowing and curtseying to their betters on the opposite side of the pitch, making sure they are allowed to do what they like on the ball without even the hint of pressure.

Probably Storey, he writes for F365 and has family who are from the North East and are Newcastle supporters. He usually writes very well on Newcastle matters.

I don't see him talk to players during games. Rafa would have been in someone's ears while we are wildly celebrating a goal. What does this baconhead do anyways?

Probably spends the entire 90 mins daydreaming about his next meal

btw I fuckin hate that face he makes when we concede, like the world is fkn against him - similar to that Pardew at Stoke gif
