nufcjb
I'm actually quite embarrased Amanda has had to walk into a shabby place like that. So ashamed. League one standards man. Quite pleased Fernandez is talking to them. Seems a decent bloke and leader. Rather him than captain kiss arse talking to the owners. Imagine if he can get a position for wor Jonas at the club! It’s actually quite funny (well, to me). You go to Christchurch or any NZ South Island airports it’s like Alex Ferguson has been cloned (hitorical Scottish immigrants), yet Newcastle looks like Phil Mitchell put himself around Newcastle in the 80’s
nufcjb
They had Sky Sports News on at the canteen. Some of the players were probably waiting for Downie to break the news Bruce was sacked. Bet you Shelvey was eating with Bruce in his office. If we did that I’d assume his back room guys would go with him…how many coaches would that actually leave us with? Maybe they want to line more stuff up before decimating our whole coaching setup? Bruce and his coaches just chuck the ball in and say "let's play" Reckon Jones and the other two could pick up that workload like

Thorpinho
She really needs to read the room and understand how hated Bruce is. Leaving him in for spurs just leads to toxic chants of 'you're getting sacked in the morning' and loses the opportunity of a great atmosphere that might actually help us win. Huge mistake to leave the inevitable hanging.
nbthree3
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/steve-bruce-deserves-more-respect-for-being-mike-ashleys-human-shield-at-newcastle-united-m8dwbrnh6 from Henry Winter, few bits Anyone with any understanding of Newcastle supporters will be aware that they don’t demand the earth, but they do demand sweat on the shirt and a commitment to try to entertain. They don’t want ten men behind the ball, trying to nick a point. For all his Geordie roots, known childhood love of the club, and association with Wallsend Boys Club, Bruce has never been embraced by the Toon Army. Too associated with Mike Ashley. Too unadventurous. His connection to Sunderland, whom he managed between 2009 and 2011, was also never going to help him. So Bruce can hardly complain when the PIF P45 comes his way, courtesy of the Saudi Public Investment Fund that is taking over the club. Newcastle fans will not miss Bruce or his football but he deserves some respect for working under the financial strictures of the Ashley regime and under the protocol strictures of the pandemic. Bruce has to go but he does not deserve to be ridiculed and the abuse he’s endured on social media has been disgraceful. He’s behaved with dignity, often almost acting as a human shield for Ashley. It needs acknowledging that Bruce has had relatively little to spend, meaning that injuries to key members of a limited squad are even more damaging. Newcastle’s squad will be overhauled, and not before time. At the moment it’s got a more Championship look to it than Champions League. Bruce has been managing with one hand tied behind his back. Regular denigration hurt him. I encountered him earlier this year coming out of St James’ Park and he was fuming over what he considered belittling headlines. There was defiance in his words but he looked absolutely worn down by the job, the pressure and the criticism. Bruce needs to look after his health, which is why the termination of his contract, however much a jolt to his pride, may prove a timely blessing. Bruce needs a break. Is he just a promotion specialist? He still achieved two top-ten Premier League finishes with Birmingham (2003-04) and Sunderland (2010-11). He can hardly be written off as a has-been, a busted flush, when he was voted Premier League Manager of the Month for last April. He guided Hull to the FA Cup final in 2014. Nobody should write him off as a manager. In 23 years in the career, Bruce has been out of work for less than two. He may have had a reputation for quitting jobs — seven times, and swiftly moving elsewhere four times — but he’s always been rated enough by owners to get jobs. The 60-year-old will be dismissed by Newcastle’s owners but he cannot be dismissed as a modest manager as he is by many fans. He’s taken on difficult jobs, often at clubs with either challenging owners or troubled finances, often both. He’s behaved with dignity at Newcastle, although the club banning one particular reporter over critical coverage was a mistake. On the whole, players like him. They may see tactical limitations and questionable substitutions, but they can also see a genuine man — and some players at Newcastle need to be looking at themselves anyway, questioning whether they have put a shift in. If they are to reposition Newcastle as a go-to club for ambitious talents, they need a stellar name in place. Bruce is not that man — everyone can see that — but show him some respect. TK-421
Don't mind Winter, but this line jumps out... "he deserves some respect for working under the financial strictures of the Ashley regime" He'll have known exactly what he was walking into when he took the job, so no, he doesn't deserve any respect for working under conditions he'll have known about beforehand. Also, those 'financial strictures' saw him have circa £125m spent on the team in the time he's been there. Edited October 11, 2021 by TK-
