No idea what to think about this anymore. There’s a side that will say it’s good when things are quiet because it means things are getting done without the media finding out.

But then also, nothing may be happening and that lawyer chap just might be a massive bread nonce.

Or maybe the way has been cleared but PIF aren’t interested any more.

Personally I think it if it was 100% dead in the water we would have a leak from somewhere saying so or even a statement from seller/club/buyer. The fact that it's been made public that Ashley is trying to get the sale done, along with the fact the buyers are still interested I would say things are still going on in the background, if it was all over we would definitely know about it.

But we have had a statement from the buyer. They stated "we have come to the decision to withdraw our interest in acquiring Newcastle United Football Club". I don't see how much more explicit they could be?

The fact that it's been made public that Ashley is trying to get the sale done

This hasn't actually been made public. What's been made public is that Ashley has engaged QCs to potentially pursue the Premier League over the legitimacy of their non-approval of the takeover. These are two very, very different things. The latter does not require the consortium to still be involved or interested.

along with the fact the buyers are still interested

Again, there's been absolutely nothing to suggest that the Saudis are still interested or pursuing this. Genuinely not a single morsel of evidence.

The takeover attempt no longer exists, and there's no good reason beyond blind optimism to think otherwise.

I wonder if the timeline reference for a takeover is in relation to the overall strategic review Masters has indicated would take place in March 2021. There is no way these Big 6 proposals did not have any influence on the Premier League decision making - would love for an exclusive story to break indicating there had been pressure exerted on the PL regarding the takeover or we wait for this to come out in the subject access request through the courts.

This breakaway idea does leave me a bit queasy tbh, it's feasible that the PL might feel they can fob off the takeover in the hope that the Big Pcture project starts to look like a reality. PIF would probably walk away themselves if they knew that Newcastle would not be part of the Big 6.

Busted in minutes

To be fair I don't think he was trying to be inconspicuous.

What he said is right though, the consortium have publicly announced they are no longer interested. If they were interested again, they could say so. That they haven't should be a wake up call to some in here.

After the initial rejection (or statements saying the deal wasn’t going ahead), I think it’d have gone through by now if it was simply a case of needing to provide proof etc. I think it’s dead.

Does Mimms[/member] still believe in what he told us a while back that the next step was a few weeks away and possibly something happening? If he doesn't think so anymore, then I would say it is dead. Only holding onto what mimms said now and nothing else.
