Some very saleable assets though if they needed to recycle money to rebuild

in normal times sure but who the hell are they going to sell Salah etc to when Real and Barca are flat broke? The only possible options are chelsea psg or city for the price they'd look for

Didn't Real Madrid and Barca hold talks with Haaland? And they have the cheek to moan about debt when they continue to sign superstars even though they can't afford it ?

Maybe we need some kind of fair play in finances to keep these clubs spending responsibly and on a road to sustainability, with strict enforcement and penalties to make sure they fall in line.

presumably that was with the billions they were expecting from the super duper league

I read in a Swedish newspaper(from DM, I think)that Glazer is considering selling the club. Is it now PL welcomes MBS with open arms?

I think Man U would cost so much that only the sort of deal that bought them in the first place could really go ahead, chuck a few quid up front and lend money off the asset in order to take a yearly dividend.

Nah, they still get loads of money and if the ESL could get the funding they said, then it shows that the UCL and Premier League are undervalued.

It does not show that at all. To get much higher TV agreements you need a closed shop. When an individual network bids for the distribution rights, they will look at the interest in their market for the participating clubs. In the CL, these vary (to a degree) each year, which in turn make it hard to predict viewership figures and ad revenue. The years FC Copenhagen makes it to the CL Group Stage will bring a lot more ad revenue and viewership for the network with the distribution rights in Denmark, but as they are not in it every year you can't bank on that so you go lower. You can't be sure of the non-local clubs with the largest followings in your market participating each year either, which would also alter viewership and ad revenue. It's an uncertainty that networks just can't gamble on. It's probably one of the main reasons the Super League came into existence in the first place.

Simon Jordon is convinced the clubs will start their own sports channel using a Netflix type model.

There is no way the league are going to say "Oh, OK - PIF you are clear to buy Man United or Arsenal or Liverpool" - that would be giving those owner's what they wanted.

What should happen, is the league allowing our takeover ASAP. Then putting a massive amount of red tape around those clubs who broke away, including fines, point deduction and other things.

That’s the thing. If you could actually pay for a single service here where you can just watch your club whenever they play and the odd other big game, I’d have no problem signing up for that.

The people that sign up for dodgy services do so because it would cost hundreds a year if you were to sign up for Sky, BT, Amazon and whatever else pops up and you’re still not guaranteed of seeing your club play!

Fear not about other clubs being up for sale due to ESL falling through. Spanish sources claiming PL clubs were offered bigger cut of UCL money which Spanish clubs weren't to pull out. Could be Madrid tactic put out in the media to hide their embarrassment for the ESL collapse. But if true everyone who qualifies is quids in.

I’d go further and suggest the Super League proposal slashed the value of our club (and all other not-Super clubs). There’s no way NUFC can be properly valued today (or in a week, possibly even a month before things shake out).

Even if arbitration ends successfully today, the takeover doesn’t happen until the consortium and Ashley agree to a price. Fortunately, Ashley is a skilled negotiator with a long track record of making good deals...

Not gonna happen, but if the owners of the 6, may continue without the clubs being rejected from playing in the PL, then PIF should just buy the club regardless of the ODT.

I actually agree with this. Call their bluff.

Nothing to lose. This sorry episode has provided a load more ammunition for our legal team, I don’t know how the PL can keep a straight face in regards to their members acting like spoilt brats calling all of their previous testing in to question. These 6 nearly killed their league and would have if public opinion wasn’t so against it. The PL need to do everything they can to rebalance the power away from these 6, bringing in a competitor would be a nice way to start to show who really is in charge.

So the nature of sovereign wealth after all this not bother anyone then? Or is it too simple a dichotomy?

Howay man, can't we enjoy the peaceful, unified forum for another five minutes before launching back into this?

Jk, fact is it's always been about Ashley going, rather than Saudis coming in. The ideal world is owners with solely/majority footballing intentions come along, but that's not going to happen without proper reform.

Sorry  I don't doubt it's about Ashley out. My ears and excitment are being pricked far more re: stuff like the pledge and the (no doubt temporary) heat of debate surrounding reform at the minute. Its the time to strike whilst the iron's hot for fans. This government seem prepared to court them right now at least - closet socialist Olly Dowden and the Pm chief among them. I don't know how I feel about a Saudi takeover, I guess I'd hold my nose but it's a continuation of the direction of travel in light of all this and I'd at least not do myself the disservice. A successful franchise model under a culture of a sovereign state could mean exactly the same issues these others clubs face. Newcastle's fanbase is massive. At the risk of sounding arrogant - we aren't amongst the Burnley's and Brighton's of this world...just yet. Despite howver Bruce and Ashley's want to paint. Don't get me wrong - Ashley is just at a different part of the spectrum of the same problem.

If the last 48hrs have taught the footballing world anything it's that the ODT solves nothing and preventing our takeover for the "integrity of the league" is akin to sticking an elastoplast on a cracked dam.

Something has to give, hopefully it's the tissue paper thin ODT and not using NUFC as the benchmark to bolt the proverbial stable door.
