If this ESL thing has panned out exactly as reported, and if the clubs involved were the ones that vetoed the sale last summer...the PL could really punish them, possibly like no other punishment, by allowing our sale to go through.

The very thing the B6 feared would be upon them and they'd just have to deal with it.

Reality:

ESL completely breaks down, gets spoken about for a bit, a couple of key figures resign and it all gets brushed under the carpet.

Our takeover enters day 32,463 and we’re approaching ‘good news in July 2108’ according to Keith.

Doussi and Jamie Reuben were giving it the emojis on twitter, so it's presumably all well for now.

Won’t be them pulling out thought it’d be PIF.

Tbh I felt more secure when the super league was on. Now the yank owners are going to throw a hissy fit and sell up as their generational scheme has been blown to smithereens in 48 hours.

Liverpool I’d say. Missing out on the Champions League this year will leave them in a terrible place.

oh yeah, incomes already down and now they (obviously) need to reinvest to try and challenge again and potentially without CL or SL money?

love this thread

  • Takeover is dead in the water
  • ESL announced
  • Takeover is definitely dead in the water as they will crack down on Foreign Ownership
  • ESL starts to breakdown
  • Takeover is definitely, definitely dead in the water as the big 6 clubs will now be up for sale.

Wonder who you're all trying to convince................?

Some very saleable assets though if they needed to recycle money to rebuild

in normal times sure but who the hell are they going to sell Salah etc to when Real and Barca are flat broke? The only possible options are chelsea psg or city for the price they'd look for

Didn't Real Madrid and Barca hold talks with Haaland? And they have the cheek to moan about debt when they continue to sign superstars even though they can't afford it ?

Maybe we need some kind of fair play in finances to keep these clubs spending responsibly and on a road to sustainability, with strict enforcement and penalties to make sure they fall in line.

I read in a Swedish newspaper(from DM, I think)that Glazer is considering selling the club. Is it now PL welcomes MBS with open arms?

I think Man U would cost so much that only the sort of deal that bought them in the first place could really go ahead, chuck a few quid up front and lend money off the asset in order to take a yearly dividend.

Nah, they still get loads of money and if the ESL could get the funding they said, then it shows that the UCL and Premier League are undervalued.

It does not show that at all. To get much higher TV agreements you need a closed shop. When an individual network bids for the distribution rights, they will look at the interest in their market for the participating clubs. In the CL, these vary (to a degree) each year, which in turn make it hard to predict viewership figures and ad revenue. The years FC Copenhagen makes it to the CL Group Stage will bring a lot more ad revenue and viewership for the network with the distribution rights in Denmark, but as they are not in it every year you can't bank on that so you go lower. You can't be sure of the non-local clubs with the largest followings in your market participating each year either, which would also alter viewership and ad revenue. It's an uncertainty that networks just can't gamble on. It's probably one of the main reasons the Super League came into existence in the first place.

Simon Jordon is convinced the clubs will start their own sports channel using a Netflix type model.

There is no way the league are going to say "Oh, OK - PIF you are clear to buy Man United or Arsenal or Liverpool" - that would be giving those owner's what they wanted.

What should happen, is the league allowing our takeover ASAP. Then putting a massive amount of red tape around those clubs who broke away, including fines, point deduction and other things.

That’s the thing. If you could actually pay for a single service here where you can just watch your club whenever they play and the odd other big game, I’d have no problem signing up for that.

The people that sign up for dodgy services do so because it would cost hundreds a year if you were to sign up for Sky, BT, Amazon and whatever else pops up and you’re still not guaranteed of seeing your club play!
