Love how the current defensive setup is coming along.

Pick our moments to press and if teams play through it, drop into that compact block just in front of our box.

Looking very promising.

Tbh I didn't understand how it was possible to press high and still remain defensively sound against players iike Mbappe and Ndombele, but now we know what the bleep tests were for when he took over.

He's on course to becoming a legend here.

PSG didn't seem prepared properly, and as we've seen before, if any team comes with the wrong approach, our guy will do them like a kipper.

Strange to say, but after what's happened over the last two years, the result is not a surprise.

Look at Schär tonight. He pretty much played as a hybrid CB and CM (N-O finally got their wish), pushing up loads when we were pressing and leaving the back line to Lascelles and Burn & Trippier. So fucking brave to instead of us just sitting deep to defender against Mbappes and Dembeles pace, he found a way to make sure they didn't even get a chance to run at our defence. Obviously it was exactly that which lead to his goal, but he was doing it all game.

Think the only time PSG managed to play through it was the Dembele chance when Lascelles and Burn were closing him down in the second half.

Quote

"We made it as clear as we could. We wanted to be ourselves when we played AC Milan and we were not where we needed to be," Howe added.

"But I think that was expected with the three defeats previously to that game. I think we came here with a lot more confident mood. We wanted to be ourselves and then take the result whatever it is."

Our shape is evolving. We don’t pedal to the metal press for the full game. We’re learning when to sit off and how to sit off.  Getting compact, making it harder to play through the lines and then crowding and harassing the player receiving the ball if they do. Midfielders turning and getting to them and defenders stepping right into their faces.

We’re also showing we can play through a tight midfield with little lay offs and one touch passing between the midfielders designed to get one of them a little bit more time to get their head up and progress the ball.

Think the Milan game did something. We’ve changed since.

Beating PSG and City in a week. Just Eddie Howe things.

4-1 against PSG, their heaviest ever group stage defeat, in only the second CL game Eddie Howe has ever attended.

There is also some mad stat about no first half shot on target being the first time in ten years for PSG in all comps. That'll be over 500 matches.

Yeah, great post. A bit of fear crept in after the Liverpool game, but that's gone now.

Think his tenure is completely epitomised by how he's handled Lascelles.

Quite easily could have been a rift in the camp when the club captain barely gets picked for 2 years

Instead he's continuously praised him in the media, established that he's still club captain and got him to produce 3 unbelievably good performances in the space of a week against elite opposition despite barely playing for two years

When you look at Ten Hag's treatment of Maguire compared to Howe and Lascelles. Chalk and cheese. Both very similar scenarios and look at the difference.

The man can turn water into wine. He’ll go on to be elite (he is in our book anyway)

Top post. He's evolving us tactically and doing what has made him great so far.

Aye excellent man management and soft skills.

It's not "cool" to have that as one of a manager's main attributes but it makes a world of difference. The atmosphere in the dressing room sounds superb. A team that is up for it vs. a team that isn't - will always win. The commitment Howe gets from the team is A1.
