If Cornets buy out is 17.5m, that's a bargain at today's prices.

Thats an very low buy out price in todays market. So if they think its high its very wierd.

Because Burnley are desperate for money and Everton who are next closest to signing him have also asked for the buy out to be reduced/restructured as they are skint also. All we need to do is match or slightly improve the restructure that Everton are offering.

If he (Werner) did come here, and I'm not getting my tail up about it as its highly unlikely, where would he play?

You can't drop Wilson, so is it RW inside forward then upfront when Wilson gets injured?

That’s how I’d see it.

There seems to be a concerted effort to signpost via the media how we won't be a pushover in the marketplace. Which I get, but it feels a little overdone.

Yep, but when push comes to shove it doesn’t hurt to be seen in this way.

Why are so many people so keen on Werner given how badly he's failed in England so far? He's been here 2 seasons now.

Not a loaded question, genuinely interested in the answer.

I’m not keen on him at all but I’d prefer him to our current incumbents.

He is very quick and has a good engine.
Also has a career to resuscitate so may have the hunger for it.

He’s ‘failed’ at Chelsea but a shitload of players have also supposedly failed there, including several current world class stars. His form and stats at Leipzig say that there’s a good player there who could make it given the right club/coaching/system etc.

I don’t profess to know much about him, beyond the occasional highlights and internationals. His experience and demonstrated quality—pretty much 1 in 2 for Germany (24 goals, 53 games) and 88 top flight goals (183 games)— makes me confident that he would be an incredible asset. I also believe that Howe could/would get the best out of him.

To get a striker like that on loan not only fills a glaring gap in our squad but frees up finances for outright purchases elsewhere.

Salah, De Bruyne, Lukaku - all buried in the Chelsea graveyard but thriving elsewhere.

Werner is absolutely rapid, that's why he would be a successful signing. Look, he isn't going to score the same number as Wilson, unless he can replicate his form from Germany but he's a very good footballer, plays on the shoulder and would thrive off Brunos through balls.

Chelsea as a club are poison to a players confidence because they allow zero time for development. If you aren't up to it on day one, they just sign a replacement.

Werner would be a main man here and can play in any of our front 3 positions. He's also young enough to be coached. He's absolutely an Eddie Howe type player.

He was one of the players I'd picked out as perfect for us before the window but I've always thought his wages would make it impossible.

Players can fail for various kind of reasons. Sometimes it’s due to the team, sometimes it’s due to the opponent and sometimes it’s due to the player himself

Werner, unfortunately, is the third type of player. If you take a look at his history, and some of his former managers comments, you will know that he is technically flawed/limited and unless you have a system that gives him the best environment to play, he will be a liability.

He really isn't a very good footballer though. Not in the truest sense technically. His technique is subpar for a player at his level. Watch the highlights of his goals at Chelsea - they're all awkward tap ins or shots hit as hard as possible straight at the goal (some are legitimately bad goalkeeping). These are the ones where he got away with poor technique.

He is quick and he does work really hard - which are attributes that I respect. And he can cover wide positions too with pace and running. So I do see the logic of targeting him from tactical point of view - particularly if we are playing a counter attacking style. And I'd rather see him play than Chris Wood of course.
