Another away game which just seemed to pass him by...

Didn't he absolutely run the show in our last away game? Not really sure what this comment is meant to mean tbh

Must admit was expecting a bit more from him today.

Thought Fred did a good job on him. Plus he had to play even deeper than usual. Was still usually quality when he got on the ball. But was maybe a bit below par with his passing.

You noticed how good he is when he went off. Totally lost any control of the midfield and Longstaff then proceeded to give it away for the next 20 minutes or so.

We need Shelvey/a DM to play that deeper role.

Yes he did. My point was that when he's quiet it always seems to be in an away game not that he plays bad in EVERY away game. Didn't think it was a difficult point to understand, then you came along.[emoji38]

No biggie that he was below par. Should be expected. Every good team we've had has had good players go to places like that and not be their usual selves cos the opponent are better than usual.

Never seen Beardsley play well there.

I'm not having a go at Bruno, I love him but he just wasn't at his brilliant best today. We need him further up the field. He's at his best up there.

Certainly wasn't his best game. His passing was wayward by his standards, as was the rest of the team's. Give and go routines with Almiron that are usually very smooth weren't coming off.

Thought taking him off was suicidal tbh and it nearly was. For all the talk of him being under par, which is fair enough, we were backs against the wall and couldn't keep the ball from the moment he went off.

There's something to be said for mere presence however a player is performing that day. Psychologically him and Wilson around instead of their replacements can only be an advantage.

I agree with this. Hopefully nothing in it as we need him to start against Everton.

Was he suffering with his ankle a bit from when rat boy fouled him? Seemed like he wanted to stay on and didn’t want treatment when he crashed into Schar. Then he was hobbling about and getting subbed a minute later.

He's going to be quieter in games away from home when he's the anchor against strong opposition where we have less of the ball and he has to be alot more displicined positionally.

He'd be much better off as an 8 in these sort of games. Against the weaker sides playing deep he has a lot more freedom to roam around influence things. He was too restricted today but still did ok overall I thought.

Not his best game today but hopefully he just had an off day, looking forward to seeing him run the show against Everton.

Not his best game but he was being man marked the whole time so it was clearly their game plan which worked to an extent.

Goes to show how important it is that we get another midfielder with quality on the ball who can take that burden off Bruno.

I watched the whole game today, was curious on how he would perform against Fred and Casemiro who know each other really well since they've been playing for Brazil togheter for a while.

He had an ok game, clearly anchored on a deeper role, Bruno Fernandes started the game man marking him and then Fred took up that role later, also there was a point in the game were he received a ball free and after he was fouled Fred and Bruno F. got into a bit of a argument clearly indicating that they were instructed to both keep an eye on him.

What was most interesting for me today was his duel with Fred, he didn't lose one, was well pressed and kind of annulled his forward passing game, but, he didn't lose a single ball to Fred.

On the other hand he took two balls from Fred that I saw, one on the edge of the box.

Still think that Bruno is clearly the better player between the two, I'm curious to see how well both will perform at the WC.

Hopefully a new DM is on the shopping list for Jan to free Bruno in playing in a more advanced position.

Unless they get someone on the cheap I think they’ll rely on Shelvey this season and go for attacking options in Jan. definitely a new DM in the summer though.

Agree with both. If we sign a midfielder it needs to be a defensive minded one, hence why I really wasn't arsed about the likes of Paqueta, though the Maddison thing confuses me a bit.

I think we'll look at attacking players in January should we be in touch of Europe come the World Cup. Diaby, Maddison, that ilk. But where the latter fits into the 4-3-3 I don't know, unless it's in that RW slot which operates more in the half space but I'd have thought that position is Isak's when Wilson's fit (which is rare admittedly).
