Newcastle United vs. Aston Villa: 13/02/2022 @ 2pm (Sky)

Recommended Posts

This lot are W5-D1-L4 under Gerrard. They've also been handy on the road picking up wins at Palace, Norwich and Everton. Given the opposition, a defeat at Brentford is arguably their only real disappointing result.

That said, I think we're playing with momentum, unbeaten in four, including back to back wins. Not only will that bring confidence, but hopefully it relaxes everyone a bit as well.

I can see a draw, which wouldn't be the worst result: 1-1

Burn for Targett the only change you’d think? Guimaraes with about 30 minutes this time.

I'd start Bruno. Villa have been playing decent football and even in just a few minutes of playing you could see the possibilities.

Another big one.

All being well injury wise:

                     Dubs

Tripps  Lascelles   Schar  Burn

   Little Joe*   Bruno*   Big Joe

  Fraser        Wood       ASM

Toss up as to whether Shelvey is preferred by Howe to one of Bruno/Willock. Manquillo to cover if Dan Burns toenail has developed a civilization by then.

I think Coutinho would get the better of Shelvey but stick Bruno on him and he will be a bit tighter and will know him well from the Brazilian national team.

That's if he is playing number 10? Not sure if villa are using him as one of the wide forwards or not.

Hopefully this isn't a jinx *touch wood* and it is largely irrelevant but Villa's record up here is dismal.

2004/05 Lost 0-3
2003/04 Drew 1-1 Robert
2002/03 Drew 1-1 Solano
2001/02 Won 3-0 Bellamy 2, Shearer

1999/00 Lost 0-1

1997/98 Won 1-0 Beresford
1996/97 Won 4-3 Ferdinand 2, Shearer, Howey

1994/95 Won 3-1 Beardsley 2, Venison
1993/94 Won 5-1 Beardsley 2, Sellars, Bracewell, Cole.

Both of those losses were when we had men sent off. 3 sent off in 04/05 ( ) and Shearer sent off wrongly in 99/00. Last time they won up here in a game that finishes 11 v 11 was in 1989. Anyway, some old timeys.
