Newcastle United 3-3 Manchester City (21/08/2022)

Great game, and just highlighted the progress from last season, to put 3 past Man City, and be disappointed to only take a point in the end, considering the 4-0 and 5-0 last season.

Miggy right place to knee it in on the slide, another great finish by Wilson, and Tripps.... :fwap:

What an insane game - Some more luck and a better bench and we could have had the three points. Ref was daft imo - The early yellow on Bruno was suddenly not yellow every time City did the same. And the Joelinton yellow I feel was also way harsh especially when he should have had a freekick the moment before. ASM was truly the level that we all have waited for. If we get a bit more quality on the pitch we will be a force to be reckoned with, the gegenpress play in the first half was just truly amazing. Fucking fantastic job from the whole gang.

Love that from Pep, when asked if that was horrible "Yeah but we don't play alone, they have quality players too", then asked the reporter if he enjoyed the game, reporter said yes, and Pep essentailly said "My work here is done"

I’m beginning to think our best bet is to sign a proper specialist DM and a proper specialist attacking mid / winger that’ll offer us the best optionality. Today I’d have loved for a real strong def mid to allow Bruno to get up more. And also an attacking mid like Bernardo Silva who occupies wide but is interplaying with the midfield and getting up field.

He wasn't bad today and that driving run be did made a massive difference to the tone of the game, but he's easily the weakest link in that midfield imo.

Yep, moving forward I agree. Today, against that midfield, I thought he did alright.

Yeah, had a discussion about this in the transfer rumours thread earlier today, and I agree.

We've been linked with the DM from Ajax, Alvarez, and so we may well see that happen.

I’d also like us to go for a top quality hybrid attacking mid who’s able to play as an 8 or 10 or winger like Bernardo

That was the best EPL game of the season so far! Amazing football from both teams.

First full NUFC game I saw this season, good to see Wilson playing well again and I really liked Pope, seems way better than Dubravka

Willock is young enough that he'll be fine to be brought along a bit slower.

He'll still get enough games (especially if God willing, we get into Europe), but against these top teams especially, a strong DM sitting in there would have been great.

All I wanted from today was an indication we were progressing and I got that. Played them off the park for the first 45 and posed a threat throughout. ASM was majestic.

It’s obviously gutting to be 3-1 up and draw, but I never really believed we’d win even when Trippier scored. If you’d offered me five points after the first three games I’d have snapped your hands off.

We’re a couple of good players away from having a really formidable side.

Wew ... Bernardo is a different breed man.

The only guy I can think of that I have seen play all those positions well that we may be able to get is Brandt from Dortmund.

Just got back - I think it's a testament to how well we played that I am disappointed with a draw.  I think if there was one glaring thing today hopefully highlighted to the owners is the lack of depth in the squad.  The players looked shattered - they gave it their all but there just was no quality on the bench to bring on.  We defo need a couple more players.

Bernardo was utter class today.
