Apologies if posted, but I’m assuming this isn’t true ?

He is adamant that it is but only in the event that Villa finish 5th because of how the extra place rules work. This would not be the case if Villa finish 4th.

Yes and no. I don't think anybody involved in the club (playing/coaching staff + executive level) would be particularly arsed about qualifying for the Conference League - in fact I'd say they'd probably prefer we didn't. Obviously a chance of Europa still with 21pts to play for, but it would require being nigh on perfect for 7 games and I'm not sure we have that in us - I've not seen any evidence of it in 25/26 that's for sure.

Losing on Sunday would knock the stuffing out of the fanbase, certainly the home crowd where there's been more than murmurs in recent league games (Man Utd aside). Obviously not aligned with the vast majority of idiots on Twitter etc, but losing on Sunday could really see the home crowd (start to) turn IMO.

The fixture list is kind or cruel depending on how you view it, you'd certainly take what we have left but when you break it down;  two games against our bogey sides, a trip to Forest who'll be fighting for their lives, a tricky game at Palace and a game at the soon-to-be champions at 17:30. Fulham and West Ham could hopefully both be dead rubbers (for them) depending on if West Ham continue their recent form.

Sunday is a must win if we want Europa next season, and I think it's heightened by the fact there's a 3 week gap until we next play. Win and go into the break knowing we have Bruno et al to return and you really will start to believe we can do it. Lose and the mood will probably be at it's lowest for a while. It's a huge game.

Agree. The 3 week break will only allow that mood to fester if we lost as well. Grim to think about.

Must win, like. Certainly don’t fucking lose to them again. They’re a horrid football team regardless and should be getting put away at SJP.

So would that trickle down with the Europa and Conference spots? Could 8th or even 9th be a European place?

It would be ridiculous for the competitions if that many PL teams got into Europe.

Maybe, but it would raise the overall standards in those competitions. The 6th place team in the PL would be stronger than most other teams that qualify for the CL. The 7th and 8th place PL teams would be stronger than most qualifiers for the Europa League.

I'm not sure it would due to the spending advantages much of the PL have against all but the very biggest European teams.

It would also make those competitions feel a bit less special in my personal view.

There's apparently some weird way for 7th place to get into the CL, involving Liverpool and Villa winning the European Cups but finishing in specific positions. I'm confused by it all now.

Would be if Villa and Liverpool finish 5th and 6th and win both cups I guess?

Maybe, but I'm not sure why it's not the case if Villa were to finish 4th. Unless I'm missing something glaringly obvious.

Because this bizarre rule only applies to the extra place being earned by league performance. It does not apply to the regular places.

unfortunately I can’t see Liverpool beating PSG in the next round, so let’s hope Villa win the EL & finish 5th, and we can get 6th

Said it before, but there should be a max of say 7 clubs from each country across the 2 competitions. If there's a scenario where 7 were to play in the CL, there should be no English clubs in the Europa League or Conference League.

The chances of the 7 being in are slim to none, but definitely feels like there shouldn't be an English team in the Conference League if we're that stacked in the top 2 competitions.

Brighton beat Liverpool

Everton and Chelsea draw

Leeds beat Brentford

We beat the Mackems

All of a sudden we're 7th, 3 points off Chelsea in 6th and 4 off Liverpool in 5th, I mean it'd have to be a perfect storm but we've got a real chance going into the vinegar strokes of the season

I have the new chant until the end of the season:

Is this the way to Hamrun Spartans, Sparta Praha, Shamrock Rovers

Geordie boys are taking over

The Conference League awaits for me

The perfect storm has happened before to reach the champions league. We needed about 4 results to go our way and a GD swing of about 5 goals and it happened......Mackems and Boro relegated on that final day as well.

My liver still bares the scars of  that day.
