If Chelsea lose later on and we win our match.  That 5th Champions League spot looks more achievable than a few weeks ago.

So would that trickle down with the Europa and Conference spots? Could 8th or even 9th be a European place?

8th is very likely a European place in anyway, it depends on who wins the FA Cup, but the favourites should all finish within the top 7 regardless.

Preferably a draw as Everton are ahead of us too, we do need Leeds to win too and it looks good providing we bury the Mackems tomorrow.

Yeah a draw works out too but Chelsea's GD is crazy compared to ours.

Win tomorrow and we have a decent chance of finishing 7th. At a stretch 6th if Chelsea lose. But it will be tight now between us Brentford, Everton and Brighton.

Lose tomorrow and I think bottom half finish unfortunately.

Quite a big swing based on one game.

There's apparently some weird way for 7th place to get into the CL, involving Liverpool and Villa winning the European Cups but finishing in specific positions. I'm confused by it all now.

Its actually not that confusing. Villa as sixth or seventh winning Europa, Liverpool as sixth or seventh winning CL. Top 5 being other teams. Competition winners will get a place regardless of where they finish in the league.

If Forest win Europa and get relegated, a team in the Champo will be in the CL. The possibility of Spurs doing that vanished earlier this week.

It gets more complicated when qualification places get bumped down the league. I mentioned it earlier in the thread but it sounds like there is a cut off at eighth. Some UEFA rule says eighth can get Conference League but cannot get a Europa place.

The perfect storm has happened before to reach the champions league. We needed about 4 results to go our way and a GD swing of about 5 goals and it happened......Mackems and Boro relegated on that final day as well.

My liver still bares the scars of  that day.

If Carlsberg did football days. What a day that was. A dream day. It seemed like our game had been finished for ages, was it 5-0 v Forest?, while we waited on other results coming in. It was just cheers and jubilation over and over again as one by one each result fell into place. Think Liverpool lost, at Sheffield Wed maybe 🤔. Then the icing on the delicious cake was the mackems and Boro going down. I can remember being in the Irish bar opposite the station and everyone going outside to sing let's all laugh at Sunderland as a London train came in. Think they might have been at Wimbledon that day. Fantastic 😄

I'd love to know what the odds were on that accumulator. Yeah the Mackem game finished very late, we were in The Forth and down a pint before they finished. I think it was their Premier Passions season. Ive always mused thats where Gervais and Merchant got the idea for The Office from, dead pan embarrassment as comedy in a documentary setting.

Liverpool drew away at Sheff Wed and Arsenal won by 2 goals. We won by 5 (5-0). Les Ferdinand's last game/goals :'-(

We started the day level on points and GD with Arsenal and behind Liverpool by 2 points. We finished ahead of both of them on GD.

A week earlier we'd been 3 points behind Arsenal and 5 behind Liverpool, but beaten Arsenal at Highbury while Liverpool lost.

Exactly what I think, that rest of the season will be determined by tomorrow. We can't afford yet another missed opportunity.

At this point it feels like we need to win just to keep up.

Still think a point isn't the end of the world given all the context and to close off this insane quarter, but could do with three given everyone else's results.

Win tomorrow and 5th is back on. It would be fucking insane if we got CL again after this league campaign.

Lose tomorrow and it’s looking awful though. Crazy how tight things are

Really do think we have a chance IF we win tomorrow. This is the last game of this period of playing what feels like every other day. If we can win we are then back to playing mostly once a week with a number of players returning and some others hitting form. I believe we can do this!
