NUFC Transfer Rumours

Racism isn’t just about abuse, it’s about how we treat players. Still happens today as players like Sterling will attest to.

The most common racism today is that many of us are guilty of holding certain players to a higher standard before we accept them and like them.

I think some attitudes towards Murphy in particular have been inwardly racist.

Course, I know. Just saying I have heard Dyer being abused publicly.

Attitudes towards Murphy weren’t about racism at all imo. He was judged on performances like everyone else.

yes he was judged on performances. But despite being at a similar level, he needed to perform better than particular peers (e.g Longstaff and Mitrovic) to be liked the same as them.

Longstaff???? He still to this day gets more shite than most! I'd say local players thesedays are on a hiding to nothing

Longstaff is a bad example to compare him to, he gets more stick than anyone

yes he does get criticised as he is probably just outside of our 11 best players.

fans have however played the ‘loves the club’ card as a reason to support Longstaff and Mitrovic.

I’ve rarely seen that card played for Murphy despite the fact that I’ve seen more photos of child Murphy in an NUFC strip than the Longstaffs, Dummett and Mitrovic combined.

We sure? Reading here you'd think the whole reason we lost 0-3 at Villa was because he wasn't playing.

Tbh it feels like everyone misses Longstaff when he’s not playing and at the same time he gets a shitload of criticism when he plays. For me he’s super important but still lacking in composure and technical ability. The good far outweighs the “bad” though.

He is what he is, a decent 5th choice central midfielder.

Longstaff went through a major fan transformation last season. Murphy did too to a lesser extent. Don’t think that’s due to race, just down to Longstaff playing more minutes and contributing more in a more pivotal squad role. Murphy only had to prove himself because he’d largely been terrible for us in his entire premier league career. Glad to say he played really well from February I think it was. I think the fans really like Murphy but it’s hard to get behind a player if they miss a ton of chances

In my opinion there was a lot of casual racism / unconscious bias when it came to both Dyer and Bramble which meant that people saw some issues that weren’t really there.

Nothing to do with this stuff then?

People saw him for what he was, a prick.

Hopefully he has matured

I have a random number in my head as to judge whether something good has happened.

If I see '24 new posts' and I haven't looked for about 3 hours I usually think "Nah not enough 70% of those are debates. I needed to see 40+ ffs".

Football and society in general are a lot more accepting of people like Bowyer, Woodgate and Bellamy than the likes of Bramble and Dyer. Bowyer in particular wasn’t even good for us but got considerably less criticism than Dyer.

Even after football. Those lads have all coached at a higher level than a lot of the more heralded black footballers. I remember reading Woodgate was an awful professional.  Bowyer and Bellamy have a couple incidents of violence to their name. You can add Barton to that list. Horrible person. Average footballer. Was much more popular than many of his more talented peers.

I just know it was Bowyer that bit the man in the cheek in that infamous assault.

And all those ‘bling’ nicknames were tinged with racism.

There’s that one quote from Klopp about his first interaction with Mane is also heavily tinged in bias.  He took one look at him and made several ascertains about his personality without knowing him at all.

Ryder has been hassling Kvaratskhelia's agent:

"His agent, when approached by Chronicle Live yesterday, stayed silent too as did Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis. Yes, he is a player Newcastle have looked at and one Howe would love to sign but the head coach said nothing was close on Saturday".

They probably haven't a clue who he is

On a side note, it'd be class if the Chronicle site didn't crash your browser once you scroll past the headline.
