Let’s get Lautaro Martinez or Marcus Thuram from Inter. Ivan Toney on loan. Guirhassy. CR7 on loan. Theres still plenty of decent CFs out there. Lautaro - huge no Thuram - simple no Toney - dunno, probably not a bad idea actually if he wanted to come Guirhassy - no CRonaldo - biggest no of the lot
Kid Icarus
Worth repeating as well that our scouting team have done a very good job. We currently have no CEO or DoF and the people in charge of being DoF and negotiating are scouts, one of which is 31, and Jamie Ruben. I don't blame Andy Howe and Nickson, the position they're in is ridiculous and I'm sure they're doing their best. The ownership allowing this to be the situation we're in because they had a weak contingency plan and didn't react are ultimately to blame.

mattypnufc
Doing a good job? 😂 going for obvious targets and failing to land any other than Elanga, Ramsdale and that young S Korean lad? 😂. Hardly great scouting.
Guest
My semi educated opinion is there is a structural problem rather than particular scouts. I mean they sent out two pif officials out recently right? Were they staff at the club? There should be people in place doing those jobs, not just adhoc

The difference now is we now can't get the deals done because they're also supposed to magically become a recruitment team, when it's not their job. Agree with that, but some outside of the box thinking would benefit us mostly. Aka some none-obvious targets. But suppose in us wanting to bridge the gap, some of those targets are going to be targets of the bigger clubs, whether we like it or not.

Hardly great scouting. That’s not the scouts though. They don’t have any power to sanction signings. They could have and likely have found tons of players, once they make a recommendation that’s as far as they can go. They don’t have any power outside of that . They could be bad I don’t know but they only work to the club remit, and don’t have final say.
SUPERTOON
Keeping Isak and waiting to spend the majority of funds until we appoint competent officials should be the way to go now imo.
TRon
I see Evann Guessand is probably headed for Villa now, maybe we thought he would be too much of a risk but he was put forward as an exciting prospect as a striker who I thought looked interesting. I would be a bit pissed if he does well while we spent all summer chasing targets that were out of our reach.

I would expect and hope they’d have back up targets, and back up targets to those. It just seems that there is no plan, from the outside.

Cronky
4 minutes ago, OoOGazOoO said: I don't even know what to think anymore regarding our approach and targets. It's plain to see that something is completely off behind the scenes, missing out on 1 or 2 of your targets, ok, other people will be interested, but every target bar Elanga, we haven't got hold of. I think the is a fine line which clearly has been pretty well emphasised, between ambition and realism. I feel we may have tipped too much in to the ambition category, not saying there is anything particularly wrong with that but the higher the ambition, the more competition, and at this time, would that realism be 100%? Feels like we have blown this window in a huge, huge way. This should have been possibly one of the most exciting since the takeover and a real chance to kick on as a club and get things right for a busy campaign from August. Yes, that requires a deal of ambition I understand that, but the warning signs should have been there when we started getting prolonged answers on players and other teams moved on to our targets. It's been pretty shambolic and is more than likely going to severely hamper the season ahead. Really not good enough. It would have been great to have done all our business by now, but there's still over 3 weeks to go before the end of the window. Let's not start wringing our hands just yet. I really don't know how any club is able to gauge how realistic their targets are until they try. What we've learned is that, despite the considerable progress that has been made on the field and on the player development side, we still are unlikely to win a transfer battle with any of the big six. The reason for that is not because the player wasn't impressed with whoever was doing the DOF job, or with the training facilities, or with the stadium. They were offered more money and / or a perception of a better chance of success. Nothing's changed. Isak, Bruno, Gordon, Livramento, Hall and Tonali were not wanted by the Big Six at the time. It seems that this is the pond that we still have to fish in. In fact, I've got half a mind that us going in for a player now actually provokes a reaction from the Big Six. Maybe that's paranoia. We're the club who has a record of messing up, and that's the narrative that the media want to perpetrate. Failure makes for a good story, and that's why it's being pushed that we've not made any signings because of supposed problems with the people who do our recruitment. I get the way the media operate, but why do we as supporters have to join in with the chorus? Is it helping?
54
As a side note, I do think part of the reason why everyone's emotions are so heightened is that we now live in a time where we are literally bombarded by information, from thousands of people all shouting into the void for clout and worth, with an apparent need to get ahead of the rest, so every single piece of information of a particular transfer, or proposed transfer gets shouted from hundreds of people, with some having a clear agenda and others just making things up. All of that leads to a situation where it gets peoples backs up, and make it feel like everything is so suffocating. Honestly, just switching your brain off as much as you can and ignoring everything, and just seeing where we end up is quite cathartic.
Turnbull2000
Currently gonna be terrified if anyone so much as limps during the Villa game. Just takes a Botman (that's assuming he's even fit), a Joe or a Gordon to pull something and we've got a major player shortage already with a crazy schedule ahead

A Ginola (Elanga), Hislop (Trafford), a Barton (RCB eg Guehi), a Ferdinand (Pedro or Delap), a Batty (Paqueta or Gallagher) and an Asprilla (Sesko or Ekitike) to make us into proper title contenders. I got the Bowyer window. There essentially weren't any transfer windows in those happier, more functional times, mind.
