NUFC Transfer Rumours

Recommended Posts

It's a tough one the full back. Lewis Hall is the legit star at LB, so it will be tough to entice someone established or justify spending big on one when Hall is the long term future. Like Grimaldo I'd love, but just not viable for all those reasons. Then other options are a younger LB, who may not see much game time but then we already have a young LB. Or it's a middle grade LB, like we've tried with Kelly.

Think we need to for a RB and accept that Tino can cover LB, but when he does that, we need a top RB. Three top full backs can be rotated more in that situation to manage workload. Wesley summer gone would've been a tasty one to gamble on, may still be a useful one to look at in summer though. Seen as bit of a joke, but Dalot would interest me too.

Yep, a right back is more urgent than a left back imo.

In terms of know quantities

Guerreiro out of contract with Bayern at the end of the season - not sure he’d be up for being Lewis Halls back up mind.

Sessegnon at Fulham’s deal is also up in 2026, can play higher up to not that we are short on the left wing like.

Andy Robertson similar contract situation, his compatriot Barnes could help him settle up here.

We need to lower age of squad it should be a young right back with a high ceiling. Tino’s ability to cover left back dictates the right is the greater need.

His backup at the under 21s is having a bit of a break out season at Genoa this year.

Norton Cuffy is the name. Came through at Arsenal originally. Powerful, athletic ball carrier and really good going forward. Haven't seen enough of him defensively, but plenty to work with as far as potential goes.

Think LB's higher priority than RB personally, we've only got one at the club. Though assuming Trips leaves end of the year we probably need one on each flank unless there's a good youn'un coming through. Krafth I think is fine as emergency RB/CB if he's fit and here another year.

Hickey could be worth keeping an eye on if he's finally over his injury problems. Similar to Tino in that he's comfortable on both flanks.

Think he'd be really expensive, but yeah that type of fullback would be my preference too due to his versatility. Would probably end up playing just as much as Livramento and Hall acting as cover for both of them so wouldn't worry about playing time.

The Temu version if we want to focus more funds elsewhere would be KWP.

Kwp was free last summer, I'm assuming we passed on him.

Tomiyasu is free still I think? Injured a lot but might be worth a punt until the end of the season. Was one of the best 1v1 defenders in the league when fit.

I seem to recall ASM running rings around him

If anything, this start to the season should tell everyone that the full back we can’t skimp out on. Need someone where when Hall is out and Tino goes LB, the drop off is not mental.

Likes of KWP are big drop offs. Need someone who’s technical and progressive with the ball. Whether that’s a LB (and RCB signing to replace Schar can also cover RB) or a RB and Tino goes LB, it has to be of strong quality. We need players in our defence who can progress the ball forward.

After this season, Krafth / Trippier shouldn’t be considerations anymore IMO.

Spoiler

Kees Smit, the AZ midfielder, is greatly admired. Newcastle enquired about the 19-year-old over the summer, but AZ were adamant he was not for sale. The Dutch Under-21 international is being watched by Europe’s top clubs, however, and Newcastle recognise they face a challenge to lure him to Tyneside, though an aggressive mid-season bid is believed to represent their best chance of pulling off a coup.

Monaco’s Lamine Camara, Valencia’s Javi Guerra, and Leicester City’s Bilal El Khannouss have also previously featured during internal conversations.

At goalkeeper, James Trafford was the subject of an 18-month pursuit before Manchester City enacted their buy-back option in July. While reports claiming Newcastle have re-engaged with the 23-year-old’s camp are premature following the manner of the summer rejection, the England international was identified as Pope’s long-term successor and is still rated. Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel is also liked.

Porto’s Samu Aghehowa, the 21-year-old striker, is viewed as an exciting prospect, though his likely asking price may prove prohibitive. Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jorgen Strand Larsen was the subject of two Newcastle bids over the summer, though Yoane Wissa’s eventual purchase makes a return for the Norwegian less likely.

At centre-half, Newcastle want younger players to challenge their present starters. Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini is among those watched long-term.
