Shite simple as that.

No pace, weak as piss and doesn’t have one trick as a wide player to go past his man.

A couple of goals during the run in last season doesn’t make him a good player unfortunately. One trick pony who should be nowhere near starting in a CL game against Barcelona.

Barnes will have his contribution this season, but first few games just reinforces my belief he’s a player we need to look to move on next summer. Helped us (and will again this season) to be a top 8 regular, but to move on we need more from our wide players in general play.

It's not just a "couple of goals" though, is it now. He's been a consistent source of goals in the PL for about 5-6 years. Lazy post.

Because his output generally is top notch, he scores and he actually has a good cross on him so he makes up for his limitations with his output.

The issues come when your relying on him to come up with magic it isn't his game and it's beyond his capability.

He’s got a bit of magic in terms of final product - at times. But that’s it.

I’m disappointed he hasn’t kicked on given his first team chances but he’s not shite.

He’s primarily a goal scorer and if things had been slightly different for him in the last couple of games this thread looks entirely different.

He hasn’t got the levels Gordon can produce but we’re a stronger squad having him in it.

Thought he played ok and could have had a goal. He’s primarily a goal scoring winger and not that creative in open play but tidy enough in possession. If you accept him for what he is then you can’t be too critical of last nights performance. He’ll score over the course of a season and contribute but longer term one we need to move on in the PSR world to recoup our money to reinvest whilst he’s still youngish. If not for the PSR would be happy to have him as a squad player.

Barnes is a decent PL footballer, but with a full team out he’s a bench player for games like this.  Lad doesn’t look at his best atm though.

What is his best though? He's got a decent delivery when given the chance, and he can strike the ball beautifully. But a good defender can shut both of those down if he doesn't have the pace or trickery to get past them.

That is his best - when he’s playing to his strengths and he’s on-form.  He isn’t as good a winger as Jacob Murphy tbh.

Harvey Barnes cost us £38m.
Seems as though Murphy is worth at least that given his productivity.

We do need more flair and technical trickery in the team - otherwise we are far too predictable. Can't outmuscle or outpower every club - our players have limitations too.

Tonali, Bruno, Wolt, Schar, Hall, perhaps Botman, Thiaw too.
They are our 'technical' players - and damningly, only Wolt and perhaps Bruno are forward players.

He’s been consistently shite for us bar the odd goal. Lazy opportunistic signing that we never needed in my book.

He played much better than how his form's been recently, so hopefully the improvement continues. It's just a shame that both of our left wingers are in rubbish form and both of our big chances fell to them. If you're picking our strongest XI right now you probably try and play both Elanga and Murphy.

I’d try Elanga left and Murphy right on Sunday. But I think Barnes is being made a bit of a scapegoat TBH.

I guess certain players have more credit in the bank and Barnes’ timid style doesn’t help him at times. I don’t think he’s amazing or anything. But every game it seems like he is copping the most flak when I think we have players that have had far worse games.
