Tbf I don’t see any real benefit to Guehi (or his people) stringing us along if he’s wanting to move to Liverpool next summer.

Then need to do midfield. Needs another 2 to flesh out the squad. 

Perhaps Paqueta at 35m and Dibling at 35m would work also. 70m.

Get rid of Isak for 140m+

Net spend of £100m

And we'd be much stronger to be honest, as a squad.

Fwiw I didn’t mean desperate as in we must get him right now, I meant we desperately need to sign a CB.

I mean we can laugh at us being linked to the same players as last summer but surely it's a good thing if we're linked with good players and they're still good (or even better) players a year later?

 

And we're in a better position than last summer. Shows our scouting isn't completely dreadful like some are suggesting

Definitely desperate for a centre-back like. I think £40m or so would be good value for his ability and what he'd add to the defence. I don't think it's urgent as in we must have him by the Villa game for instance, but we need one by the end of the window.

Of course we need a CB but we're not "absolutely desperate" when there's still several weeks of the transfer window to go; so desperate that we should needlessly over-spend. He's got a year left on his contract, would be lunacy to give them £50million. That's probably more than we offered them a year ago tbh.

With how this summer's been (not) going and the fact that the season starts in 2 weeks, forgive me for saying yes we're desperate and also for not being dead certain we'll get the right players in, or any players at all.

I don't think getting a defender and midfielder before the season is absolutely paramount.

 

Sorting out the striker situation is, but you can probably get away with being more relaxed about the midfielder and defender situation as long as it's sorted before September.

We need to forget about the season start date, it's the window slamming date that concerns us. Unfortunate, maybe, but true.

 "Absolutely desperate" is the season starting tomorrow and having one or fewer CBs fit. We're nowhere near that stage; at present, Schar and Burn will be starting the season with Botman, by all accounts, likely available. 

 

Clearly we need to get our succession planning done for the first two and this summer is absolutely the time to do that. But we're not exactly on life support here.
