He wasn’t signed to break down a low block though, but he adds a lot to plan A.

Daft to use that game as a reason why he’s a pointless signing, by the end of the season you’ll have changed your mind.

Nah, I like Elanga, and think hes a big upgrade on Murphy, and will help us.

I just wanted us to spend 60 mil on a winger who could help with plan A and plan B for nights like tonight.

Anyone watching the game today knew that neither barnes or Elanga were going to change the flow of the game. And if Gordon was fit. He wouldn't either. Just felt like we needed a different type of wide player personally to add to the collection we have.

Got criticised for saying he's just fast and not much else when we were first linked.

Yes he'll come up with the odd moment but I think we will get frustrated with his technique at times, Iike today.

Barnes had no impact on the other side either.

Aye. After a mixed bag at Villa, a brilliant display on Monday and then shite today, the same as most of them. You should definitely come in here with a ‘I told you so’ post

Some of the horseshit that gets posted after a poor result [emoji38]

Guy hasn't even been here 5 mins. The same people will then be crying about Isak shitting on the fans. Fuck out of here man! [emoji38]

Summaries in here are typically over the top but he was probably my biggest disappointment of the day. Hopefully he isn't only effective with space to run into because Leeds won't be the last team to sit deep against us. Trying to cut him some slack; there was one really good pass he fizzed across to the D which we should've made more of, and he made a very timely defensive contribution at one point.

There is an unbelievable amount of overreaction in here.

I agree but he’s also not been radically different from the prior of pretty big overpay for a slightly above average premier league winger. He needs a lot longer obviously

Where did I say "I told you"? I'm not saying my opinion of him is correct or won't be proven wrong as he develops,  just that on days like today fans will likely get frustrated with him and so it has proven with other people's posts.

He was no worse than anyone else and it was as much to do with how we attacked as a team rather than him individually. He needs space to run in behind and there wasn't any.

He actually came on full of energy and I thought 'here we go, someone willing to take the game to them'

Then things just petered out.

But 3 games in, new club and no recognized striker as a target. He will get better.

Wouldn’t have been my choice or many for the right wing slot this summer. Seems a good character and looks exciting when he can unleash his pace.

Think this was a big call from Eddie though and his lack of technical ability and composure looks very apparent already.

I think we have to cut all the players a bit of slack with regards the Isak situation - it totally disrupted our pre-season and the results were a reflection of that.  Also we have been playing the first three games without a recognised striker.  It's going to affect the players - especially those who play in the final 3rd.  They've no one to target or link up with.

Who is the player you’d rather we had signed?

I’m not convinced a more creative wide player makes that game different for us today, more outside chance of one moment leading to a goal though? Yeah maybe, but then unless that player can also deliver the physical aspect of the game that Howe asks for it’s a non argument.

Do wide players that tick both boxes exist in our realistic transfer world?

For me it’s evolution of the system that will end up leading us to being able to break a low block, Woltemade at #10/SS could be a big piece of that puzzle.

The technical ability issue is a weird one. There' times when he can produce some absolute magic, clever whip on the delivery, a brilliantly intuitive first time flick to put someone in. Then there's other times when his first touch is awful, and the cross ends up in the stands. Howe was chasing him for a year so I will just presume he knows better than me. He's very exciting anyway.
