He is definitely better than Dubravka who will be 37 before the season is out.

Once Trafford was out it was mooted we just wouldn't bother with a keeper. Personally I'd rather Ramsdale in on the right deal than no keeper signing at all. I think he was a good player for Arsenal personally - just Raya was better.

Yep. He’s not my favorite either but a loan with option is simple and easy.

It’s funny though. For the first couple years people fought against the idea Howe had an English/PL bias. While o think there’s some other reasons for that - a need for short term results. The evidence is overwhelming now.

It takes a lot for us to go for a foreign player init?  Must be part of the reason we’ve been so successful with them. They have to tick so many boxes for Eddie.

Including betting slips unfortunately

Very good with ball at his feet. Calm under pressure there. Those balls out to Gordon/Elanga will be sweet.

Yup. After watching Pope the other day, I'm glad to have this option.

Was worried we'd just go with the same pair again this season after Trafford joined Man City.

I think he’s coming in for Dubs rather than Pope anyway. Pope will be assumed first choice still.

Even more reason why I find it unexciting and a bit ‘meh’.

Either we need an upgrade at keeper to change the way we try and play or not.

Signing what is possibly a backup keeper when we have so many positions of need doesn’t exactly get the pulse racing

Opinions on keepers seem to more extreme than any other position for some reason.

Think there would be similar reactions if we signed DCL or Maguire

Not thrilled about Ramsdale, guy just seems to get relegated for a living and said he can't even concentrate for 90 minutes. But, I suppose if we get a body in that's got to be progress of some kind given the shit show we've seen so far.

I can live with this, and as said before use Matz Sels redemption arc as an example, this guy could be the dogs under Eddie. Let’s see. Now on to the next position.

Reading Arsenal fans opinions on him, they seem to rate his shot-stopping and say he has talismanic qualities/leadership. I’ll take that, tbf, even a few Saints saying he was largely quality for them last season.

My views is that he raises the floor rather than the ceiling.

He's better than Dubravka, but not Pope.

If it's a loan with an option to buy, leaving us with funds to spend elsewhere, I can live with it.

We needed to raise the ceiling in the gk department though, that’s why Trafford was targeted because he’s a lot better than Pope with his feet. IMO Dubravka is better than Ramsdale.

I actually feel like Ramsdale has a lot of attirbutes that can make him look top class at times. It's why Arsenal bought him in the first place. However I've always felt the problem with him is mentality, which you can't really coach. I'm sure I read an interview where even he said he would struggle to concentrate for a full game.

It’s not even Ramsdale that aggravates me, he was a prospect at one point and if Howe rates him and wants to give him a go then fair enough. My problem is we seem to be purposely cutting ourselves off from most of the young talent in Europe. With our transfer policy we won’t get the next Salah, De Bruyne, or Saliba, our competitors will.

Only positive for me about this is…

Are we reallocating funds to KEEP Isak and BUY Sesko (along with a RCH) hence getting a deal with little commitment this year (?)

How is Pope done like? He was perfectly fine just a couple of months ago at the end of the season, but all of a sudden he's done?

Pope was great for us last few months of season when teams were putting in crosses, but the shots that were low down, he was starting show major weaknesses with them.

Well we do, but we can’t get it done now so we’ve changed approach. Nobody said it was exciting.

I think we put all our eggs in the Trafford basket tbh. We now want someone to come in cover, without committing funds.
