We’re getting some work done in our house at the moment and one of the trades has done work at SJP in the past and has been approached to do work at the training ground. He’s been told that Benton has 10M earmarked for improvements. Nowts been signed and I don’t imagine 10M would go that far in the big scheme. Apparently there are tenders out for other work.

I’d be tempted to call bullshit but he seems absolutely genuine; he’s done a cracking job for us as well.

Be interesting to see if our new owners go down the terracing route to increase capacity even by a small amount.

Yeah I was thinking this earlier.

Does it increase capacity? I thought it just replaced a seat with another 'standing seat'?

I hope the East Stand signs are changed by next weekend. Or at the very least the awful current version is taken down.

Pretty sure it increases capacity

Nah, not with the legislation that the government and Premier League are coming out with, it’s a 1 for 1 basis with a possibility of increasing to 2-1 in the coming years.

Still opens us to the option quicker if we start now.

I think we should get as much pictures as possible of SJP in the current form and state and as the changes/improvements happen, we'll be able to see the before and after changes. Guess our first opporrunity will be the Spurs game. Might even be some nice changes done even before that since the new owners will there.

Devastated this has happened 18 months too late, with the precious land needed to extend St James' sold off cheaply to Ashley's chums. Guess we're now trapped in what may eventually be one of the smaller Premier League grounds.

It wouldn’t bother me too much if they renamed it with a sponsorship deal that allowed us to spend more money on players because of financial fair play. Obviously I’d rather they never changed it.

As long as they keep the St. James' Park bit I'm not too bothered about sponsorship. I mean I was 30 odd years ago when the league cup was discussed, but they promised the FA cup would never go the same way.

Can't really do anything other than boycott the companies that choose to sponsor these things. They're generally shit companies anyway. Boycotting Bud and Carling was never really a conscious decision I had to make. Milk was tricky though.

Feelings on a new stadium lads?

it’s crossed my mind

I think it'll happen.....and (unfortunately) will be called something like The Aramco Stadium.......really mixed feelings on this as something like an 80,000 stadium would be brill but St James will always be home

It must be looked at , it would be weird not having SJP as home but the future surely must be away from it now?

stadiums like WHL in London are now the model, it’s utterly fantastic and surely now is the time we will do it ? But where would we have it, land is at a premium now and theres nowhere in the city to house it now .

SJP cant be improved, built up, the inevitable move away looms in the coming years .
