HaydnNUFC
Flashback. I don't remember despising McClaren as much as Bruce. Does anyone recall what made Ashley pull the trigger? The points we have now are roughly the same I think. Few things, Rafa was available and approached the club, the atmosphere and manner of the defeat to Bournemouth, our general performances and results in the league and the fact that we were 19th(?) when he was sacked. Dr Jinx
I had more hope of staying up in 2016 than I do with our current situation.

Lush Vlad
Our performances are far worse than I remember from when McClaren got sacked. Plus we have been consistently shit for quite some time. The fact that from what local journos are saying. Ashley and Co think all is well because we’re not yet in the bottom 3, like we were back in 2016. Is just absolutely bonkers. It says everything you need to know about the people running this club. Not learned anything from previous mistakes and lacking any foresight to see where this is heading. Sho Time
I don't think our performances are as bad (not lately, anyway, West Brom aside) but it's irrelevant. We can't get any points on the board. We are definitely fucked - our best option is to sack Bruce just for the bounce at least.

Only one person making the decisions and everyone else just goes along with it, too scared to tell him he's wrong.
toon25
Can anyone remember how soon he was binned after a match? Was it straight afterwards or sometime the following week?
et tu brute
Can anyone remember how soon he was binned after a match? Was it straight afterwards or sometime the following week? No he was pictured going into training smiling for a few days after and then having a face like a smacked arse leaving the training ground after he had been sacked. TRC
He was on my flight from London to Newcastle once, last one on the plane, held up everyone and then couldn't find his seat. He had a laugh with everyone about the whole thing mind.
Minhosa
Personally think he was a lot more likeable than Pardew and Bruce. I could also see what he was trying to do, early in the season particularly, in terms of us playing football.

I could also see what he was trying to do, early in the season particularly, in terms of us playing football. Agree with this. He wasn't a particularly great appointment, but I wanted him to do well. Actually had high hopes for him after that home game v Norwich. McClaren has a better CV than the two of them put together. The only thing that Bruce excels at is being a cunt. Yorkie
As a person he doesn't even belong in the same sentence as Pardew/Bruce. McClaren was a decent enough bloke but just useless and a bit of a wet lettuce.
Superior Acuña
McClaren cut a uniquely sad, pathetic figure. That actually sounds harsher than I mean it to.
AyeDubbleYoo
Said it loads of times, but he had good ideas when he arrived. He just didn’t have the backbone or the influence to stick with them when we went on losing. He’s much better tactically than Pardew or Bruce, doesn’t belong in the same group at all. Disco
McClaren cut a uniquely sad, pathetic figure. That actually sounds harsher than I mean it to. This. From memory he didn't have a Trump esque relationship with the truth either although I might have just forgotten. He was just shit rather than a malicious cunt. Consortium of one
McLaren was like the Jeff Hendrick of head coaches when he was here. He just seemed to fade away a lot of the time.
Chicane
Looked like he was being arrested Still, he was riding around on a jet ski in the Caribbean a week later so not so bad
Doctor Zaius
It was far from funny at the time, but McClaren was pure Newcastle United comedy. Absolutely everything about him screams inept.

xLiaaamx
If he'd played Tiote-Wijnaldum as his midfield 2 he would have been fine. He persisted with Colback-Anita and it dragged us into a hole we couldn't get out of. Those two just let us get overrun every game.
Pilko
My memories of McClaren are him telling us we were "magnificent" after every incredibly limp shoddy display, waiting til 85 mins and 2 goals down to make a sub, and saying "we're working hard behind the scenes and have to believe in what we're doing" a lot. Christ he was shite but I do actually think Bruce might be worse.
Stal
Awful appointment. A soggy bit of mouldy bread in a suit. Nowhere near as odious as that prick pardew, but he was alex ferguson's right hand man at man utd during bruce's playing time so he had a hand in shaping our current incumbent incompetent.
