Steve Harper rejoins NUFC as Academy coach

Great guy.

Money wasn't important to him., could have easily become a first team keeper somewhere else (and maybe earn a England cap) but didn't want to leave.

Good luck to the guy, hope he sticks around.

He got a better contract so that he would stay here...

I'm a 4-3-3 fan, lots of possession with hopefully hard-working quick attacking players. The players at your disposal obviously dictates your hand but I like the fluidity of that system. Its been in a lot of demos over here and is obviously 4-5-1 out of possession & 4-3-3 with wide front two [who] are very important, hard-working, quick & creative but probably very, very expensive too.

Sounds like he knows his shit. I think he'll make an excellent manager.

Fundraiser: Old glorie Tyne bound?

Wednesday brought the following twitter postings from former Magpie custodian Steve Harper regarding his proposed testimonial match later this year:

Another testimonial meeting done & we're nearly there. Announcement next week hopefully. Shearer, Ginola etc v Baresi, Maldini etc. #legends

Vieri,Shevchenko,Costacurta too confirmed. Just waiting for co-operation from all parties to confirm. Hopefully on Wed 11th Sep #all4charity

Speaking during a talk-in event late last season, Harper confirmed that he hoped to organise a veterans match on Tyneside (ideally at SJP) with proceeds going to benefit the work of several smaller charities in the region.

The proposed opposition is an AC Milan "Glorie" XI who regularly assemble to play friendly matches and have visited Indonesia and Georgia in recent months.
