aussiemag
to be fair it was hisd direct running at defenders that lead to sholas goal. we started playing alot beter football with hmi on the park aswell. He is jsut lacking in match sharpness, which will come back.
Dave
That's the kind of player he'll be though. He'll lose it a lot and it will frustrate us a lot. Opened up into some really good areas though, parts of the pitch we didn't even know were there before. Spot on.
Guest Dontooner
Thought Pardew did the right thing bedding him in slowly, playing in the hole also means dribbling and passing at appropriate times. He just got to figure that out we would have got ourselves a formidable playmaker
Jayson
There was that lovely moment where he found space beautifully and Cabaye fed it through the midfield, turned ran at the defence and made space to Obertan in a very dangerous position. Who then passed it right to the keeper at snails pace. But thats what he offers.
Mr. Snrub
Similar to Robert really, if he consistently produces moments of brilliance anyone with an ounce of sense will accept the moments of frustration.
The College Dropout
Holds the ball for too long. Might take him a season or so but he'll learn.
Guest zeta87
looked less sharp than I remember him. Perhaps due to his long injury he is still unmatchfit?

Guest Haris Vuckic
Looked decent today but I think he needs people to play with him and get used to him. We'll see a lot more from him and my Ben Arfa 37 will regather the stock it initially lost!
Revolution Number 9
I would like to think he's trying too hard to impress, and doing everything on his own more than usual because he wants to get in the team tbh.
Beren
Really interesting Ben Arfa issues to come out of that game. Still too excited to full think through them, but it seems to me that inherent to his contribution and creativity that he'll bring to the side - he'll also lose the ball a lot. I'm fully prepared and happy for that to happen. (And it was a pet peeve of mine when people previously criticised Gutierrez for losing possession - something which has thankfully abated). This does mean that I've really gone off him playing anywhere other than up front, or off the front man. Has to be a far advanced position in the field for me - not midfield or the wing. Stottie
Maybe tried too hard today but its great to see he still has the confidence post injury, and some of the things he tried will come off against lesser teams. There are plenty of them in the Premiership.
Astroblack
He does hold on to the ball too long but when he has it, he's got 2-3 players on him. Leads to things like that Obertan cross. Really opens things up. Will be interesting when he starts.
Sifu
Did decent enough when he came on but he's still a bit rusty. Like Tooj said, maybe he was trying too hard. Not worried about the lad.
jdckelly
some match time will sort out any issues
Tiresias
Think he was desperate to get a goal or such, he needed to lay off the all more, needs more time on pitch but slightly less annoyed by his lack of starting now. Marveaux needs to start instead of Obertan though ASAP.
Guest Heneage
Hope he starts against Wigan.
Zero
He deserved those "on the match" training times. That's a horrible injury and we all know how good he could be.

Guest fumiste
I think he should start this kind of game. he was like a ghost in the pitch...trying to find his place and the ball... He needs a lot a games before to reach his level...
Ishmael
Yeah, absolutely no problem with Ben Arfa holding onto the ball. Just draws players onto him and 3/5 he will get it away to an attacking position. Like in the build-up for our 2nd goal.
Minhosa
Just me that thought he brought a positive attacking intent to the side when he came on then?
jdckelly
Just me that thought he brought a positive attacking intent to the side when he came on then? I thought so too got into great positions but tried a bit too hard to do everything himself when there were men available for the pass
Guest BlacknWhiteArmy
Just me that thought he brought a positive attacking intent to the side when he came on then? He did. Moves into really good areas, opens up space around him. Our team really is going to be good when we've got everyone together and fit.
Newcastle Fan
I like him, he was trying to hard to impress today though and that effected his general play, think he'll have moments of brilliance and frustration, hope we get to see more of the first.
