Cheick Tioté (1986-2017)

Will never forget an away game against Arsenal where he ran the midfield. Think we beat them 1-0 or drew 0-0 and he was just dominant. Fabregas was invisible that day.

IIRC it was statistically the worst performance of Fabregas at Arsenal. Tiote just intercepted or tackled anything that moved that day [emoji38]

He was f***ing amazing that day, very similar to Everton away where he just shut absolutely everything down and played the right out pass every single time.

The Everton game was unbelievable, according to the stats afterwards he misplaced one pass all game.

Him and HBA that game :smitten:

Although the main memory of him will obviously be the goal at home to Arsenal, that away performance is what I consider peak Tiote. He was a 10/10 that day, Kante-like in being first to every single ball, every single tackle all day long.

How many Premier League players have we lost now? Seems to be increasing more and more and not all age related.

Foe, Speed, Chucho, Srnicek, Atkinson, Ehiogu, Tiote off the top of my head.

Remember coming out Goodson being mesmerised. He upstaged HBA when he scored a worldie and took the piss relentlessly. Even more so as I'd never heard of him until then. Those first months he was class like. Such a shame.

So sad and shocked about this.

The start of his career here he was an absolute enforcer, breaking things down, tackling properly, keeping things simple etc.. and of course, that goal against Arsenal.

Fizzled out by the end of his time here but nonetheless, still hold him in high regards and wish him well.

Absolutely no age to die like. Gutted.

Will never forget that goal, ever. One of the genuinely fantastic moments of recent times.

So weird this, like others have said, he was on a pitch for us not long ago. And now gone. Just like that. Hard to comprehend.

That goal was one of the few highlights during a dark period of the club. Just have to remember that we had sacked Hughton a few months earlier, Carroll had just been sold less than a week earlier and everyone was predicting us to go on a bad run and get relegated again. We were heading for that, but it was that goal, that moment which changed the course of history. Except for a good season afterwards and a good cup run in the Europa League afterwards the club was in a mess and freefall until Rafa came in.

Wish I could just wake up tomorrow and that it all was just a bad dream. It's obviously very sad to see and hear all the tributes and it makes you struggle to keep your eyes dry, but at the same time they make me a bit happy in a way, to see how well liked, respected and loved he was and that makes me proud. You will be missed, but never forgotten Tiote.
