Yohan Cabaye retires

that's exactly how much Jenas used to cover when he was playing fairly well for us. Cabaye does seem to have a great engine, i think he said he is covering up to twice as much ground in a typical game as he would in france - wonder how long he will be able to keep it up.

Since Jenas has a much longer stride length, Cabaye would have to work quite a lot harder to cover that ground.

Athleticism ranked as probably Jenas greatest attribute and it made him a decent player for us. Cabaye actually likes to pass forward and find the strikers so imagine how good he's going to turn out.

I would say he does go invisible at times especially in first half, but he will reappear with aplomb. I have seen more good passes by Newcastle players than the last five years put together and this is down to him.

Thought he was invisible in the 1st half because the play was focus on the wings and the strikers. Pretty large gap between the midfield and the attacking quarter. Possibly ask to sit back to be more defensive.

He was sitting very deep in the first half, certainly didn't venture very far forward much.

Blackburn packed the midfield today, so he didn't receive much room. And also I think Pards wanted to attack Blacburn's weakest point, left back. So we channeled much of the play on that say. Did get more involved as the game went on, since Blackburn had to switch formation. We've struggled the last seasons when up against Blackburn, because they're physically strong, and their defensive formation. . Now we have the creativity and pace necessary to take them out. Hopefully we'll play better against similar teams like Fulham, Wolves and Bolton.

As Pardew alluded to on radio, they had him man marked in the first half and who could blame them after seeing last weeks game. Pards found it funny and said teams can carry on doing it if it leaves infinite amounts of space for Tiote and the wingers.

Exactly. Whenever Cabaye is quiet, it'll just create other pathways for us. Also, when teams double-mark Ben Arfa, that'll leave Cabaye and Jonas to kill them softly.

Cabaye admitted he had been blown away by the reception he received by the United faithful after another top-class display in a black and white shirt from the former Lille ace. This was typified towards the end of Saturday’s 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers, when the Strawberry Corner section of the Gallowgate End rose to their feet in adoration for the midfielder who some fans have already nicknamed The Dreamboat.
