Hughesy
I wasn't sure if he even touched the ball when he came on.
AyeDubbleYoo
I would have gone for Obertan personally. Marveaux can almost get by in a wide position sometimes, but Spurs are quite a physical and pacey side.
Wullie
Cabaye could have slid him in right at the end for a fairly simple finish, understand why he took the shot on though.
The College Dropout
IMO he's not really a wide man. Gouff's outright pace and directness. likes to get ahead of play where as Marv likes to dictate play more with his feet on the ball, passing or skipping past one or two. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but bringing Obertan on for Gouff and Marv for Perch, pushing Mous deeper would've been better. Can't complain though, Marv is leagues ahead of Obertan football intelligence wise.
LoveItIfWeBeatU
Marveaux has a lot of fans on here but we don't seem to have won many games when Marveaux plays from the start. I guess a lot of that is to do with him getting games when the likes of Ben Arfa and Cabaye have been out so he hasn't been playing in our strongest team. People like him but does he make a big enough impact in games for us? I'm still not sure whether the Premier League suits him. He hasn't played a lot of games but you'd like to see him stamp his authority on a game. For example, if he plays on Thursday I'd like to see him have a big influence on the game. Tiresias
To me he has to be central, he gets lost on the flanks imo.

I think the fact he was still playing well whilst we were losing says how good a player he is rather than anything else.

Yes but how often has he made a big difference on a game?

Flip
For me it seemed pretty clear Marv is better behind the striker like someone suggested. If anything both Jonas and Marv made a case for why Jonas is starting on the wing. I don't know but he seems lost when he doesn't have the ball and seems more like a playmaker. Would start him centrally against Metalist with Cabaye and Tiote behind him to see how he does.
Tiresias
He looked very good in a poor team for us, he was one of the few willing to carry the ball forward from midfield to attack, and could pass the ball. I'm very happy to have him for squad depth and imo should be seen as an option for the no 10 role. On the wings he can drift out of the game and doesn't do the defensive work. Looked a decent can opener in midfield though.

ATB
Not the ideal starter. Feels like a Joker in that sense that he has the potential to win a game, but sometimes he just go missing.
Skirge
There is no doubt he has ability but not sure he is ready for 1st team EPL football, games just pass him by way to much. Looks lost & out of his depth I am not writing him off or anything but he is going to need a lot of time to find his feet.
Newcastle Fan
I really like him but that was such a disappointed apperance yesterday, never really got involved in anything and the whole game passed him by.
alexf
Harsh to judge him based on yesterday. We barely had a touch after he came on. We had completely lost our way post gouffran injury.
Smal
Yesterday did help to prove the point that he shouldn't play wide, mind.

Smal
Well put it this way, I haven't seen him play well for us once out wide. I've seen him play well plenty of times when in the centre.
Zero
He is excellent in creating plays when there is space but he doesn't have the ability to create space on his own.
Wullie
I thought he was superb at Old Trafford.
Gallowgate Toon
He's very adept at making space for himself, he's simply just not a very aggressive player and consequently suits certain situations better than others. See Chelsea, where he played out wide, compared to Spurs.
Rich
Well put it this way, I haven't seen him play well for us once out wide. I've seen him play well plenty of times when in the centre. He's barely been played wide though, although I understand he's barely played at all since joining on the whole. From this season I can remember the first half against Everton (a) where he was on the right and struggled with Baines/Pienaar and then Man Utd (a) where he played advanced on the left and was very good. After a bit of digging there were also the two earliest Europa games and Maritimo where he scored. The rest of the time has been bits and pieces here and there, including last season (where he impressed out on the right in cameos and managed to get into the team). Not exactly much to go on. Yesterday we had lost our foothold even before Gouffran's injury, too, it was a tough situation to come into.
Unbelievable
I don't think Saturday can be used to prove or disprove Marveaux' ability to play wide, seeing as that's not where he seemed to play at all even though he came in to replace an injured Gouffran. Looked to me like he was operating in an already congested central area, rather than providing a wide option. Whether this was tactical or not I do not know, but he certainly didn't play as far forward and wide as the man he replaced.

I think the problem came because Jonas was on the other side so neither was providing much attacking impetus or width. If Marveaux was wide left with Ben Arfa or Gouffran on the right then it wouldn't be as big an issue.
