It should go without saying, but I'm more ashamed by what happened after the match. The people involved aren't clever enough to realise that though.

Well.. had looked decent there last two games and I think Pardew wanted players on the pitch who had been here long enough to know what derby day means and who had been through some of them.

TBH Jonas at LB was the least of our problems, that utter s*** ball he played that cost us the first goal had nothing to do with him playing at LB was just a dreadful decision and poorly executed pass.

Jonas at left back wasn't the least of our problems and the first goal is proof of that.

Devils advocate a little here.. Cabaye was dead on his feet and was having a p*ss poor game, Jonas had played in a LB last two games and had done very well there so to choose him to start there was not a decision I had issue with before the game.

Not defending Pardew and think he is to blame for today I just think those two points can be argued either way

Jonas starting at left back was laughable.

He played left back for Argentina. He has played left back for NUFC before and has been good before.

I didn't have a problem with Jonas at LB but then I assumed it was being done as an attacking strategy, that we didn't expect to be doing too much defending, rightly so against one of the only attacking teams (previously) worse than us in the division.

As it turned out, we spent the first half camped on our 18 yard line hacking it away in sheer panic and trying to play the classic Pardew counter attack ("See that black bloke right down there, about 70 yards away in the yellow boots? Kick it towards him")

Was a horrific attempt at a cross field pass, nowt to do with him being at LB just poor football.

If he wasn't at left back he wasn't on the pitch, it had everything to do with him being at left back.

 that just daft man.. you issue is that he played him at all... the mistake he made was not a direct consequence of him playing at LB, he trued to switch play, telegraphed it and under hit it..

What's depressing is that everything we've (rightly) accused Sunderland fans of being, our lot are doing it in spades tonight. Due to hypocrisy, we can't laugh at 5-1 anymore, we can't call them scum anymore.....we have more in common than we'd like to admit. It's giving football-haters more to bash us with and it's giving the North East's reputation a battering. Us and Sunderland are as bad as each other :(

Incidentally - meant to ask, not sure if this has been discussed already elsewhere -  but what was all that commotion after the second goal down in the SW corner/Gallowgate where three or four very big lads in their 40s were basically stamping and piledriving into a teenage lad? :o

My issue is that he was moved into a position to get him into the team.

Imo, the only position at which Jonas offers any value anymore is central midfield. He's fairly decent in a midfield 3.

Been saying this too. He's not the best there but the way Anita, Perch and Tiote have performed there I actually like Jonas there for some odd reason. He'll do the donkey work if needed and can carry a ball out of trouble with his strength. I don't think he's good enough to be starting but if he has too it has to be in place of Tiote at the moment.

It's no longer an opinion man. It;s become a fact. Given that the mackems had no great shakes in cm, Jonas should have started alongside Cabaye and Marveaux in a 3. We can all see Jonas can't play anywhere else except the manager.

Also a bit that way with Obertan and his couple of excellent cameos at LW. Never to be seen there again.

Embarrassing day from start to finish. Some of the dregs of humanity that follow both clubs man! Whether its folk punching police horses or folk singing about wishing people dead, hugely embarrassing.

The less said about Pardew and the actual game the better though.

Every club has total idiots, anyone who thought we didn't was completely deluded.

I know the police get a lot of stick but I thought they were brilliant today.

No idea but just before the third there seemed to be bother in the leazes middle of lower section.. also the scum threw a flare down into the leazes when they scored their first.

Probably. I was just wondering if anyone sat in the vicinity was able to shed more light on it. Nasty stuff to see happening in the ground and the stewards didn't look like they were on top of it at all. He was just a kid wearing a toon top...so I was wondering what justification there was for it.

Think this must've been the only likely explanation, but it was pretty horrific to see first-hand. The lad took a pasting. Fighting, fair enough, but when it's people stamping and kicking at someone on the ground it goes too far for me.

I'm assuming from the venom a few were spitting that they'd warned this lad already though, now that I think back, someone was shouting at one of the stewards that they should've had him out earlier (as though he'd been flagged and fuck all was done).

In terms of the actual beating the stewards did fuck all again, police turned up five minutes later when it was all over and some woman had to then be escorted out on a stretcher thing by St. Johns with what looked like a panic attack from witnessing it all.

There was fighting at the end of the game in the SE Corner low down between a teeanger in a Polka dot shirt and a bloke. He was mouthing off and it all got quite nasty tbh. I have no idea what started it, but the stewards were horrendous at diffusing the situation.
