Scoring for fun in the Ecuadorian top flight, but it is the Ecuadorian top flight. Flamed out in MLS on loan a few seasons back. Top scorer in the Copa Sudamericana two years running, 6 goals in 12 for Ecuador including 2 at the Copa America last summer.

About as random a transfer rumor as it gets.

I vaguely remember him at Chivas USA (LA) and doing poorly but to be fair...

1. Chivas were an incredibly bad team

2. As much as we criticize the MLS, just about any MLS team could beat NUFC at the moment. NUFC lost to the Timbers reserves while basically fielding a full strength team and only eeked by the USL team the Republic on an OG.

Well with Toney out for months, cisse permcrocked and riviere permanent shit I would rule out bringing them both in. If we get doumbia I could handle gomis as back up for Mitro. But can't see swansea loaning him and him wanting to exchange benches.

GFF

An agreement is said to be in place in principle for the loan of Seydou Doumbia to Newcastle - Marseille to miss out bit.ly/1OXyFaO

That's them just quoting Le 10 Sport who aren't that reliable.

This is what happens when you make do in the Summer.  Your options are always restricted in the January window and even moreso when you are in a relegation fight.

How many of these players would they have signed had they not been desperate?

We didn't make do in the summer. We spent more than most. Our problems stem from lack of activity 3-4 years back not last summer.

That's the point though, isn't it. We did make do in the summer, we had a lot of catching up to do and did a bit instead. Everyone sensible knew we needed at least a centre half and a central midfielder in addition to what we bought, and probably a striker if Mitrovic couldn't carry the goals burden.

Yep - forgot him. just seems strange to end up looking at someone at Gomis. There must be other strikers around surely? That Ben Yedder guy at Toulouse seems worth a look or Niasse that Everton are interested in. It's hardly as if Gomis is a proven goal scorer in the PL. if anything - he has proved he isn't that good in the PL.
