Grealish role at City is very different to Villa where he was the main man. He's basically there to hold his position right on the touchline outwide and draw defenders to him whilst creating space for the midfielders and Haaland.

Ā

City pretty much play with a front 5 in attack, two wide players to stretch the opposition as wide as possible then two '10s' exploiting the gaps between the fullback and CBs who are occupied by Haaland. They don't even use pacy wingers anymore just ones very good at dribbling, holding the ball and passing. Wide players stats probably suffer in this system but they are clearly doing what Pep wants them to do.

Ā

It's daft to compare Grealish to Sterling and Jesus as that was a totally different setup with essentially wide forwards getting into to the box as much as possible.Ā

I reckon Grealish played more minutes than KDB last season.Ā

Ā

Premmo:

Ā

KDB - 2,417 minutes

Grealish - 2,055 minutes

Ā

IDK about CL/Cups.

How long do you think kdb has left in the tank? He's in his thirties now.Ā

Two years at or near his level, with a little bit of waning. Think there’ll be a significant drop off after thatĀ

You rate Gonzalez? Thought he looked good versus at the weekend and would be a good option for our right wing slot

I’ve only seen him play a couple of times but he’s definitely good enough technically. Ā Don’t think he’d be any better than what we have though even if he is a more aesthetically pleasing player for me.Ā
Ā

Got a feeling he’d a player who would look and be better with better alongside him.

I feel one more top season then they'll look to replace him. Doesn't feature as much for pep now.Ā

Foden and Mahrez couldn’t even get into the team last season.Ā
Ā

Pep seems happy with him in the system. Happier than he is with Foden. So I’ll take that as him being good. Pep is all about the system and he seems happy with Grealish in it.Ā

Ā

I get it Pep absolutely values him highly, likely because he is doing exactly what is being asked of him.

Ā

I just think within Peps parameters he could still express himself a bit more. I liked him a lot at Villa and it's clear the instructions have hamstrung him a fair bit compared to then.

Ā

Whenever we played Man City the last few seasons I was far more worried about Foden and Mahrez causing us problems, even if Pep valued them less.

The next handful of years are going to make me feel horrifically old with all of these top tier players retired/retiring, that I spent my seminal years watching.

Regardless of roles, I just don't think he has been as threatening as any of those other players.

Ā

Bernardo and Mahrez on the opposite side in the current system still cause far more problems.

Need @FroggyĀ to apply his specialist knowledge hereĀ [emoji38]

Ā

I would agree with @Jimburst

Ā

He was like a fish out of water when played as a lone DM. Definitely more of an 8 than a 6. His transitional play is excellent mind and he seemed to do better on the ball the less time he had on it.

Ā

When he had a proper DM beside him he had some brilliant games. There is genuinely a really good player in there with Fred and by all accounts he's an amazing lad. I'm sad to see him go.Ā

There's no way Bayern would've pursued Kane all summer without encouragement from his end.

Ā

It'll happen because everyone wins if he goes now.

They aren’t the sort of club that lets anyone pull their pants downĀ

Mad how no other PL club wanted Kane enough to pay the coin Bayern are.

Ā

Levy probably asking for significantly more if it's a PL club you'd think. It basically guarantees a champions league spot to whoever bought him.Ā

Ā

Would be disappointed if we finish below Spurs this season without Kane now.Ā

Levy will be bouncing. Lots of money in and can replace with a couple of lesser earners so he’s the best paid man at the club once more.

He put the ticket prices up in the summer too as punishment for booing him too.

Ā

Could see him going back after Bayern mind.
