He probably does believe he’s doing his best under restrictions imposed by the owner, which in a warped way is normal to a football manager. That’s the problem with the whole situation really, it’s quite easy for outsiders to pretend it’s just normal for a club like Newcastle. That’s part of the damage Mike Ashley has done. So he knew. And he knew he was being disingenuous. Like you say, massively grateful for the opportunity - like Bruce. I happen to think Bruce is just enjoying the ride so far and hasn't had enough time to be wronged, as far as he's concerned, by Ashley. I doubt he knew much about Joelinton and ASM as players and the deals were already done, so were part of the package he was getting by securing the job, as opposed to them being chosen over players he would have liked instead. When it comes to next summer, when he's pitching this player and that player but Charnerz & Nickson's Agentfavours Co. are bringing in more players from the continent he's never heard of... that's when we know he's lying, when he tells us he's happy with the squad.
