None of this shit is new. None of this shit is exclusive to one club or exclusive to football. I think Balague is trying to say the latter, albeit poorly worded. It's a social world issue. I think everyone knows not to read the comments section on fb or after newspaper articles. Easy way to eat up and ruin your next week with the amount of ignorance. I'm fine with a stand up to social media abuse campaign but let's not pretend it's not everywhere and let not also pretend it's everyone doing it. Wolfcastle
Don't get why people are going on about 'were creating a society that etc. etc.' - its always been this way ffs. Its just now what was contained in fanzines, pubs and break-times at work/school and private discussions is now there for anybody to see if they want to. Football managers have been hated by their own fans as long as I've known - often far worse than this and almost always with less justification. How many others suckled up to a hate owner and wound the fans up from behind the safety of lockdowns? Its just utterly bizarre that Bruce released from a job he only got for a laugh to begin with, is some sort of revelation. Football managers have been hated by their own fans as long as I've known - Brantfoot at Southampton, Horton at Man City, Benitez at Chelsea, O'Leary/Bruce at Villa, nearly every mackem manager, Graham at Spurs (even after winning something), Ferguson at Man United until he won the cup, Allardyce at West Ham/Everton/Here, Sir Bobby/Taylor with England are just the extreme ones off the top of my head. Even Wenger at Arsenal in the end ffs. Its often why managers get sacked or haven't these people realised that? Its just utterly bizarre that Bruce released from a job he only got for a laugh to begin with, is some sort of revelation. Aye - also lots of younguns on here wont remember the abuse Graham Taylor got from the media. Front page headlines too. Hypocrites. Lots of parallels with Bruce... It just wasn't as newsworthy so his blatant lies weren't as well reported. It is quite possible that coins and such were thrown at him at Sunderland and Villa. However I’ll never forget that whenever he went on a poor run of form all of a sudden there would be an article about how he tried to stop people from burgling his home, complete with marks all over his face. It was a coincidence that it kept happening and at rough times as well. It’s almost as true as Pardew’s lies about his daughter was told never to come to Newcastle again. robbo_11
The issue is that the pundits are less likely to be objective either through personal relationships, business dealings or previous engagements with clubs. There is a cancel culture that exists, but you'll often have ex players move into the media as a means of making a living and as a result offer "expert" opinions on the game as they see it. Do I care what some will say about Newcastle? No, because their opinion has been influenced by a personal relationship as opposed to watching or understanding the current situation around the club. The downside is when they fall into the etiquette of assuming or an opinion that is outdated due to not having the awareness to do some research. I'm not suggesting that a pundit needs to research in depth all twenty clubs, but if the media briefed them on the hot topics and they spent a bit of time (not Twitter) researching it might actually improve. Steve Bruce has left, he wasn't successful with us during his time here, but it wasn't unexpected based on the information we had from his previous spells with clubs in the Premier League. With a backdrop of an initially failed takeover that promised the world and minimal transfer dealings from an owner that was hated it pointed towards a dismal job. Steve Bruce accepted the role knowing full well the expectation from the club on his achievements and by staying up he fulfilled those. The media will turn their attention to Ole now because that will be the hot topic and in a few weeks time I imagine it will be another manager that will be facing the heat. This is the "narrative" of the best league in the world.
Decky
That 5-0 win for Liverpool couldn’t have come at a better time to show the hypocrisy in the media and football. Every media outlet this morning was harping on about Ole getting the sack. Social media was rife with abuse going his way. Completely overlooked and if Ole does get sacked all the attention will be about who replaces him, the treatment of him now will be quickly forgotten about. Wolfcastle
Taylor, Sir Bobby and McLaren all slaughtered as England managers by the national media with little to no defence from the pundits. All northerners I notice.

Ben
So both Sky and the BBC now have videos out interviewing fans outside Old Trafford asking fans who should takeover from Ole because of how terrible he is at the same time condemning the Newcastle fans for their treatment of Bruce. Of course. It's because Newcastle Utd is a loser club, they should be grateful they have anyone to manage them at all, ever. Whereas Man Utd is a winner club, for whom losing a single match is a travesty and the manager should clearly be replaced.
