Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)

So in a world of 4D chess, have we;

- Known Liverpool would come for Isak

- Planted a story about Ekitike being his replacement despite not actually wanting him

- Potentially intentionally underbid for Ekitike to make it look like we were serious about replacing Isak

- Had no intention of selling Isak to begin with

- Baited Liverpool into panic bidding for Ekitike to poach him as he must be as good as Isak?

- Keep Isak and made Liverpool spend £70m on an average bundesliga striker?

The kid is a good player and would have improved us but either he or his representatives have fucked us over again and again, this time is different though.. we’d agreed everything with him.. it’s the club who wouldn’t pay what was needed to get him.

Seems to be a recurring issue though and we’ve missed out on a few players this way now.

It’s all a bit naive.

The PTSD of him becoming r9 every time we play them enough for you?

Scarred by watching that 1-2 in a pub full of plastic scousers in the Lakes aside I just think he’s a very Eddie Howe’s Newcastle player. Got all the raw ingredients to be better than what he is but it hasn’t quite clicked for whatever reason. Big, physical, quick, works hard (or at least from what I’ve seen). We could do a lot worse.

He was also IMO pretty good in his first season but obviously not however much they paid for him good which coming from Portugal is always likely.

Yeah I won't deny what your saying, it's all true.

It's not going to happen mind as the price is way too much and the source is team talk. Also he's an out and out forward very different profile to what we've been looking at.

Should of learned our lesson prior to the the latest bid, it's a short career and if he thinks the grass is greener elsewhere and it goes down the pan, then more fool him for not coming here. It shows how frightened the cartel are of us , Villa, Forest etc.

Like others have said. Sounds like it doesn’t track compared to other seasons. But Havertz and Werner underperformed theirs when they were signed for big money, I think. Ended up looking crap as strikers in the prem.

Too small of a sample size and Ekitike looks quality and more than just goals. But strikers from Germany still worry me a bit. They don’t defend properly over there

Is it? the lad has 25 career goals over 4 seasons of football and yet is rated at over £70M, surely it would be naive to spend even more on "potential". The club has demonstrated they have an internal value and won’t go beyond it. I think it’s stood us in good stead currently we just have to trust the process. In reality given his relative lack of experience, only really playing for one season in a weaker league his value should be much lower. As others have said he has to hit the ground running at Liverpool, lest he become Nunez mk2. Unless they buy a more experienced striker to support and take the pressure off, there’s a chance he flops

I'm not 100% convinced Liverpool will pay what Frankfurt want.

Me too, they've been umming and ahhing about him for a while now.

They wouldn't even need to match the release clause, they'd just need to match our bid and then if no other offers come in, they'll at least force Frankfurt into considering it.

All we've done is submit a one offer below Frankfurts valuation which was of course rejected and then we walked away. It's worth remembering that Liverpool haven't 'power played' us or blown us out the water, as it stands we're the only ones who've put out money where our mouth is to show we're interested in him.

Aye, for all the noise about us apparently playing some sort of blinder in order to deter interest in Isak, it's still another week that's melted away without any more incomings.

Considering the context of our last few transfer windows, any fewer than 4 senior arrivals (including Elanga) would be incredibly disappointing. It should really be 5 if Sean is indeed away.

We all know the circumstances and the market conditions are tough but we can't use that as an excuse, we need these additions.

Mitchell was under contract and should have been made to see out the summer. Even if it was just to share the work load and help negotiate deals, we’ve left ourselves woefully short.

I called this when it happened at start of the summer, whatever people think of Mitchell it’s far from ideal and timing couldn’t have been worse.

If it is true that he blocked the negotiations on Isak’s new contract then I’d rather he was gone, more chaos or not.

They do actually have to get some of these executive appts right at some point

It's either that or we've been made to look amateur as fuck yet again.

Or we’ll pay what we can, or what we will pay. Full stop. Take it or leave it. Eki-fecker and Guehi sagas maybe gives a very clear message that we won’t be bent over. Frustrating as it is to have our hopes dashed (mostly for Eddie et al.) not a bad basis to approach future negotiations.
