Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)

Just a sense check - does anyone really think that tweets from any journalist can be the medium through which football clubs, agents, players or whoever else are alerted to developments in transfer dealings they have an interest in?

Hear it often, "that's Romano (or whoever) flushing out interest in a 50 million pound player to other clubs".

Just sounds so very unlikely

Seen a Liverpool fan on Twitter claim that Onstein changed his tweet to say Ekitike was being bought to play with Isak under instruction from Newcastle as we don't want it to get out that we've agreed to sell Isak to Liverpool. Liverpool are breathing the copium deep right now.

Ekitike is a forward - also going play Elanga

Got to be 442 or 424 or some Eddie version of it

Both, and thrown in some 433s some 532s and 523s.

Look at Trippiers heat map when we had possession, would you describe that position as a right back ?

Look at the way one of our  centre halves would push and press even on the edge of the oppos box. Hardly a centre halves position.

Our positions are nominal and rough guides.

This signing should it come off adds to it

2-3 minutes was enough for me, looks a smooth and brilliant dribbler with a great shot on him and loves working a 1-2 as well, class

I remember watching videos when we were linked before he went to PSG and found it hard to get excited, looked a bit like Bambi on ice and clumsy.

Seems to have really grown and developed. Looks mega now. Almost like Eddie knows what he’s doing.

We need to sell Gordon and buy a left footed left winger so we can go full throwback 4-4-2.

Get knocked out of the cup because our lads can’t out jump the lumps who play at the back for Stockport or someone

Think Trafford should get done (you hope) and that’s like what £150m spent? Could argue we could stretch that to £180m if we sign a CB, but would then need some top commercial deals / UCL again in 2026 to enable spending next summer.

Would argue it’s better to go balls deep this summer and stretch that to beyond, because the stronger the squad is, the easier it is to sell someone like Joelinton etc. next summer and replace without a big shake up.

The obvious elephant in the room is that we're spending a huge amount this summer because we know our prize pony is off next summer anyway. Which is fair enough and makes a lot of sense, but that kind of pre emptive spending can bite you on the arse.

Aye, I suspect he'd have developed under EH in the interim 3 years really well but perhaps playing in France at PSG and then a spell in Germany has rounded him differently. He is very slightly built but such a smooth and elegant looking player, hope it happens!

It can. It can also stop you being held to ransom for a replacement with selling clubs knowing you've just come into a load of money.

If this happens, and we still see a decent CB come in, wonder what it will mean for squad cohesion? Things have seemed pretty harmonious, but that could change with two players chasing some key positions.

I’m sorry?

Aye I'm not saying it would be our preferred formation necessarily, just can he play it. Feels like something we could theoretically see more of, particularly in the CL.
