That's fair, but from the outside there's currently a growing gap between the ambition we're told the club has and the progress we're actually seeing on the pitch and in the transfer market. Right now it feels like we're entering a reset. Within the space of 10 months we've sold, or are in the process of selling, some of our best players. We missed out on our preferred replacement for Isak and during the last few days missed out on our preferred replacement for Gordon as well. That doesn't mean the club lacks ambition. But it does make it much harder to see where the project is heading. Personally, I'd have included a change of manager as part of that reset as well. I'm doing my best not to let that colour every opinion I have, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't in the back of my mind. I think like everything its optics. I want us to become better sellers, identify when to sell at peak and use this to bring us forward not sure tonali at 26 will ever be worth more than he is now should we get 90-100m It's been a bad season relatively speaking , we have blown a big load of cash and that gamble has led to the need to sell. Who we would like to sell isnt going to cut it but "needing" to sell a mainstay player from our starting 11 having done so already just doesn't seem a good look really especially with lack of incomings yet despite how early it is in the window. Kid Icarus Posted yesterday at 18:57 Share Posted yesterday at 18:57 (edited) We also keep losing out on players because they sign for Man City, Liverpool, PSG, Barcelona, Bayern, Man United and Chelsea, so how does that align with 'no ambition'? Yeah but I think thats down to the club being poorly ran on and off the pitch, not because our ambition has waned.

He clearly isn't bothered about winning and challenging for titles and trophies or even playing Champions League football. I don’t see why they can’t start doing that to be honest. Maybe not winning the title, but Man Utd went from 16th to 3rd. They’ve got the resources and a decent manager. I’d certainly back them to win something again before us at this rate. A truly ambitious club does not stick with a manager that's just spent over £250m and finished 12th losing 17 games including both derbies to a newly promoted side. I rate Eddie so high for the amazing times he's given us, particularly winning the cup final. That really was exceptionally and should never ever be played down. But last 2 months last season especially, we were flat as fuck and stale with no drive or pride in our play on too many occasions. We need a reset and that includes a new manager. These days 5 years as a PL manager with one club only happens with championship winning managers.

Now we look way off and a bit of a joke. that's all true. problem was that the cartel also saw that title challengers in 3 years didn't look a million miles away. so they poached our director of football and our best players (ex Bruno), and gazumped us on all the elite players we were trying to buy. whether or not it was literally coordinated, it might as well have been. we do look way off and even a bit of a joke (altho seems harsh to laugh at the victim of this stuff). my barely visible silver lining of hope is that i feel like everybody at the club gets that now, and we are perhaps boxing a bit cleverer. i like hopkinson, i like wilson, the new shirt deal looks decent, i liked the signing of big ewen. we aren't being allowed to do even a half-arsed version of man city, but maybe now we're at least trying to do something else. and maybe we're needing to jettison the players who came here for the original "project" as part of that. i feel like next season will probably be a good deal better than last season. but then, it bloody well should be. Reading between the lines we're not totally against a sale and have set an expensive but ultimately realistic price for someone of his age, profile and contract length. If the price is met both sides will shake hands and move on with their lives without any rancour.

Chris_R
I think we should absolutely refuse to sell until a replacement is signed. Can't be having the Gordon issue where another club gazumps us on a replacement leaving us without either player and just a stack of money we can't spend. If he were to do that it would make him an even bigger cunt than Isak after the way the club stood by (and paid) him for a full year whilst he served his ban almost immediately after signing. There's another theory that he already knew this ban was incoming when he made the move but that's never been proven. The big difference though is that we would probably be fairly willing sellers as long as the price is right for us. With Isak we mad it clear we didn't want to sell at any price. What would really piss me off would be if someone came in with a derogatory offer that we reject out of sight which unsettles him and then he starts to act the cunt. I think the one thing we can all agree on is that he goes nowhere until his replacement is through the door.
