NUFC Transfer Rumours

Been thinking about this because my brain hasn't quite switched off from transfer mode, but where do you think we upgrade next?

I'm thinking potentially (presuming no outgoings with players I'd want to keep:

Gordon or Barnes

Botman

Willock

Trafford alternative

Back up LB

Central midfield.
Each wing.
GK.

A full back.

Depending on how Thiaw and Ramsdale get on, it could be that we're looking at heart of defence surgery next summer, at centre back and goalkeeper. Schar and Burn will both be 34, and Botman could be written off by then if he can't prove his fitness and availability this season.

I'm not sure though, Schar and Burn could still have one further season in them as the starters, or of course Thiaw could take Schar's position but he'd have to be performing exceptionally to do so.

To my defence, i have seen the similar price range for Scalvini, Leao and Frattesi around the internet. So not from my fantasy, and to me, Lopez and Barcola for that price actually is realistic

A £235m net spend seems a bit of a stretch.

Lets just write of Botman and Thiaw?  Bit early to say that can we get through the season and see how they get on.

Generally speaking I’d like to see us take a chance on lower priced young players a bit more rather than go for established stars. We were linked to Desire Doue but didn’t go for him in 2023, a year later he goes to PSG. Same story with Huijsen. Just those two signings would’ve been transformative for us.

I didn't say that. It's of course speculating in response to KI's question, as based on the conditions mentioned in my previous comment, it could be an area that needs a lot of attention before long.

And imo, Botman is getting close to write-off territory. I almost don't factor him in when thinking of squad depth or best 11's at this point, same as Willock. He's played 25 games in two seasons, and he's already took a knock this season after just 1 game.

The most immediate situation, assuming our transfers work out, is midfield IMO. Miley needs a loan, Willock needs a transfer, and Tonali and Bruno need a capable backup so they don’t have to play every minute. We need an attacking midfielder that is also high energy (Frattesi seems suitable) and a good ball winner that can play in DM.

I'm not sure Miley needs a loan. Where to? He'll get all the cup games and sub appearances in the league, plus plenty of sub appearances in other competitions.

I think Anderson taught us that a player needs to be starting games on a weekly basis. Playing here and there makes it difficult build any momentum.

I think our areas to strengthen are:

Midfield (genuine quality)

Multi-role attacker (LW/CAM)

CB

LB (backup)

RB (potential)

GK (high ceiling)

Players I would cash in on - Barnes or Gordon, Willock, Botman (depending on injuries), Osula

Well Bayern Munich were about to sign Jackson for £70m so that might be debatable but we'll put that down to desperation.

He's clearly not a shit player, he looks very talented, but until he's been tested in the PL there is always some doubt. Bundesliga isn't exactly the most demanding when it comes to defences. But I agree, all signs do point to him being the real deal.

They did sign him did they not?

I'm not even sure about that. Not watched a lot of Anderson at Forest, but he didn't particularly shine in his games against us. Has his game really changed that much since he left? I mean Longstaff looked a lot better playing for Leeds on Saturday but I doubt it's because he's improved a ton in a month. Just our style of play is very demanding and needs players who suit it.

I think Anderson was very promising fwiw, might have needed to play more centrally rather than being shunted out to the left like he was here.

There's a lot of players in the first team that are in or approaching their 30s that will need replacing in the medium to long term: Pope, Schar, Burn, Joelinton and Murphy.

I'd wager next summer we'll be back in for Trafford and Anderson.

Depending how this season pans out, the young Korean lad could be Murphy's natural successor. Replacing Big Joe and Schar are the biggest conundrums, they're literally one-offs.

But also limited in their way. Means an evolution in style but no reason why we can't do it.

FWIW I think Ramsey will start as much as Joelinton when integrated and injuries (to both) permitting.
